Where to Stay

Manchester's City Centre offers accommodations to suit all budgets that are convenient to many local points of interest. If you wish to stay in the pleasant countryside along the city's outskirts, there are plenty of options in the suburbs of Stockport, Bolton, Altrincham and near the Manchester International Airport.

Inexpensive

There are some high quality pub accommodations in the City Centre, including the Burton Arms Hotel near Victoria Station, The Crown Inn on Deansgate, and New Union on Canal Street.

If you are looking for a more traditional, family-run hotel, try Monroes Hotel close to Piccadilly Station or the Mitre Hotel on the grounds of Manchester Cathedral. Central Manchester is home to the flagship YHA, close to some of the city's best nightlife.

Most of the nice, reasonably-priced hotels in Manchester are in the outlying districts. On leafy Barlow Moor Road in West Didsbury, you can find a number of small, family-operated hotels offering good facilities at competitive prices. Two of the best are Bourneville Hotel and Green Gables Guest House. In the less fashionable areas of northern Manchester, even better value can be found at friendly guest houses and small hotels like Harpers Hotel in Harpurhey.

Moderate

If you are on a relatively tight budget, then there are many moderately priced hotels close to or within the City Centre itself. The Hotel International is a popular choice with rail travelers because of its close proximity to Piccadilly Station. It's also a five minutes walk from some of the city's main shopping and entertainment venues. The elegant Princess Hotel on Portland Street boasts its own exclusive nightclub and is near Chinatown.

Those looking for gay-friendly accommodation could try the vibrant atmosphere of the Rembrandt Hotel on Canal Street or the Holiday Inn Express at Salford Quays. Sporting aficionados can check out the Old Trafford Lodge, which is just a short walk from both Lancashire County Cricket Club and Manchester United FC.

Further from the center you can enjoy the great food and quirky charm of the Albany Hotel in Chorlton or the excellent facilities of the Britannia Hotel in Stockport, which is a great tourist base for visiting the Peak District and is close to the airport. For those traveling by car, the Novotel Manchester West is just 7 miles from the City Centre on the M60 motorway.

Expensive

If you want the best there is, the City Centre offers many choices; from the striking modern facade and bold architectural sweep of the Malmaison Manchester to the fine Victorian details of the popular Britannia, with many self contained bars and restaurants nearby on Portland Street.

For businesses and organizations requiring conference facilities, the modern Manchester Conference Centre & Hotel on Sackville Street, close to Piccadilly, is an ideal choice. Close to Manchester International Airport is the comfortable Airport Moat House.

Very Expensive

Befitting a major, cosmopolitan city, there are many world-class hotels in the City Centre such as the famous Edwardian Crowne Plaza — The Midland close to Deansgate and the imposing façade of the Palace Hotel on Oxford Road. While the elegance and charm of the waterfront at the Marriott Victoria & Albert Hotel is a perfect base in the rejuvenated Castlefield area.

Traveling business people will find Manchester International Airport is near several top quality hotels including the luxurious Manchester Airport Hilton and the Radisson SAS Hotel. In the affluent suburbs of south Manchester there are several country hotels including Stanneylands in Wilmslow and the Village Hotel & Leisure Club in Cheadle. Both offer superb facilities and excellent locations close to Peak District National Park and the southern Pennine Hills.
