Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma, the following description may no longer be accurate. Please consider this when making your travel plans. With bullfights, parades, dances and more, this celebration recognizes the arrival of Columbus and his crew and the birth of the Mexican race as it is now. A melting pot of Indian and Spanish, Cancun has rich traditions of all-night revelry on this holiday. Step out of your hotel and into the streets and join in with noise-makers, flying streamers, informal pinata games and more. These celebrations are largely informal and unscheduled, except for the 2p afternoon parade and 4p bullfight. Most events take place downtown. Admission is free except for the bullfights.
