Shongweni is a large nature reserve situated 30km north of Durban, which is a recognised Natural Heritage Site. It includes a variety of game, over 200 species of bird, interesting rock formations, grasslands and bush-veld. There is dam for fishing and canoing, with over 15km of hiking trails. The trails are self-guided and there are restrooms and three picnic sites en-route. Purchase an inexpensive permit at the gate.
