Tsurkva Sveta Nikolai (St Nicholas Russian Church) of Sofia. Built in 1912 by Russian workmen, the roof is covered with green majolica tiles, and crowned with five gold-plated onion domes in Sofia The Alexander Nevski Cathedral in Sofia.  Built between 1904 and 1912 the neo-Byzantine cathedral is one of Sofia's most famous monuments.

Sofia's city centre is an eclectic mix of architectural styles, largely rebuilt after WWII bombings and complete with a yellow brick boulevard. The city is compact and diverse; a great place to get your bearings before heading off to discover the real Bulgaria. Read Sofia introduction
