Where to Stay

Buenos Aires offers a wide variety of accommodations in various neighborhoods throughout the city. From hotels in another era made prestigious because of their historical reviews combine modern infrastructure as a result of powerful, foreign investment, to aristocratic hotels with elevated, mirrored towers and simple hotels for the occasional tourist or the restless adventurer. Many of the city's classic hotels are now owned by international chains.

La Recoleta

For travelers who want to stay close to fine museums and restaurants, check out hotels in La Recoleta, one of the more expensive and exclusive neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, known for its "old money." The Caesar Park gets high marks and any person strolling down Calle Posadas will be impressed with its classic European exterior. Inside, the glass cupola lets in ample sunlight and affords a view of the surrounding foliage. Since 1932, the Alvear Palace Hotel has been impressing visitors and is regarded as one of the best hotels in the city. For old-world elegance and comfort, there is the wonderfully spacious Hotel Plaza Francia and the equally charming Étoile Hotel, which has a jacuzzi in each room. A hotel that displays luxury and sophistication with a French style is the Kempinski Hotel Park Plaza. This hotel is near one of the most exclusive shopping centers in Buenos Aires, the Patio Bullrich Shopping Center.

Also in La Recoleta is the Four Seasons, which occupies the Alzaga Unzue palace. Construction of this building began in 1916 during a flourishing period of urban and economic growth. The interior of this French-style mansion evokes a feeling of the old Argentine aristocracy. Next to the palace, this hotel constructed a modern tower with suites in which many famous people have stayed, including Madonna, Michael Jackson, Luis Miguel and the Rolling Stones. The architectural features of the original palace are preserved throughout. Another hotel that is well-known for its friendly service and great location is the Apart Recoleta Hotel and for those looking to stay in a palace of concrete, glass and steel, there is the Ce Hotel de Diseño where all of the rooms are located on the ground floor.

One more terrific spot in La Recoleta is the Recoleta Plaza Hotel, a five-star hotel that really deserves this designation. Again, it is located amidst fine shops, restaurants, and nightlife.

El Centro

If you value fine accommodations but also want to be exposed to the hype of downtown, many hotels in the El Centro neighborhood give you the best of both worlds. A hotel built during those Belle Epoque years in the first quarter of the 20th Century is the Claridge, a beautiful symbol of that era's architecture and the city's first five-star hotel. With hardly a single renovation to its exterior, it was awarded a prize in 1992 for best historical façade in Buenos Aires. If you desire some less opulent surroundings, you can opt for the Las Naciones Suites & Towers or the Columbia Palace Hotel, both of which have wonderful amenities and are centrally located. If you wish to lodge near some tango bars, then try the Bristol Hotel, the Bauen Hotel & Towers which is run by its employees, or the Gran Hotel Argentino. Another hotel located in this area with an Art Nouveau style is the La Perla Hotel. For those looking for American comfort there is the Days Inn Confort Hotel and the Best Western Monumental Hotel & Spa. Throughout Buenos Aires there is an abundance of boutique hotels such as the Esplendor Buenos Aires, the Novel Hotel and the Waldorf Hotel, all of these hotels have modest prices and will not disappoint even the well seasoned traveler.

El Retiro

The enormous towers of the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center have completely changed the style of the El Retiro district, an area where various means of transportation converge. The Retiro Train Station and the long-distance bus terminal sit across from the hotel. This neighborhood contains La Plaza San Martin, a beautiful, calm park in the midst of the bustling city. The other Sheraton is the Sheraton Libertador Hotel which has one of the most popular restaurants in the city, called La Pergola. Nearby, there is the Marriott Plaza Hotel with 325 quality rooms and the San Antonio Hotel with another famous restaurant called Vitreaux, a romantic setting for lovers. The Sofitel Buenos Aires is centrally located on a street with art galleries and shops galore for you to choose. If you have the family with you, there are two great hotels, one of them is the Lafayette Hotel and the other is the Hotel Diplomat. They are both modestly priced and offer great continental breakfasts.

Monserrat

Located in the historical district of Monserrat is the InterContinental Buenos Aires. This hotel is located conveniently near the airport and the main tourist, cultural and commercial attractions of the city. It is ideal for visitors who enjoy sports and exercise since it boasts a full spa and gymnasium. Another hotel in this neighborhood is the Gran Hotel Hispano, located near many tango dance clubs. Also near some great tango clubs is the Concorde Hotel. For shopping and everything else that this city has to offer, there are two hotels located on the Avenida de Mayo, one is the Gran Hotel Vedra which is great for businessmen due to its wonderful facilities and the other is the Astoria Hotel, a comfortable place to take the family.

La Zona Once

If you are not as picky about the location of your hotel, check out La Zona Once - a commercial area where you can find hotels for reasonable prices. Try the Gran Hotel Argentino as one of these and if you like the fashion industry, there is a perfect hotel for you, the Sarmiento Palace Hotel.

The many chain hotels in the city include the Spanish hotel Sol Meliá located at 945 Reconquista, close to the central pedestrian thoroughfare Florida and Calle San Martín. The hotel has 125 rooms decorated in a classic art deco style and a restaurant serving Spanish cuisine.
