The monument to Columbus was opened to the public on 1 June 1888, some weeks after the opening of the Universal Exposition. Gaietà Buïgas i Monravà designed the metallic column and Rafael Atche modelled the sculpture of Columbus. The column is 51 metres high, while Columbus on top has his index finger symbolically pointing towards the New World. You can go up by elevator and enjoy a very nice panoramic view of the city.
