Since the 70s Ibiza has been a top-ranking holiday destination for thousands of people, particularly in the summertime. The range of accommodation on offer, therefore, has expanded hugely over the years and now visitors can find anything from the height of luxury to relatively inexpensive lodgings, in a wide variety of settings and styles, too.

The days when tourists had little choice are long gone. Some time ago, you could find a few places in San Antonio (precursor to touristic development on the island) and of course in Ibiza city, as well as a few spots in Santa Eulalia. Nowadays, the big chains have arrived and laid their claim on the island, creating large holiday resort clusters in places like San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa.

Family-style establishments, though, have also cropped up and more exclusive hotels and resorts, often more secluded as well, are also on the island to cater for all tastes. Ibiza, obviously, has luxury hotels such as Jardines de Palerm (Los), and Hacienda Na Xamena (the latter set breath-takingly on an impressive cliff). But there are also small, warm, welcoming places hidden away on the island or in the romantic old part of the capital, which was named a heritage site by Unesco in 1999. Canopy beds and amazing views are on offer at La Torre del Canónigo. And there are lovely places that allow you to appreciate the beauty of the island as well. Now, people come all year round, and some prefer the quiet winters to the hectic partying of the summer crowds. In spite of Ibiza's famed nightlife, the island is also gaining a name for its natural beauty, often found away from the coast.

If you are looking for a cheaper option, there are campsites, popular with young people, who arrive with their backpacks and their desire to have a ball and make the best of their time, normally between May and September. Some sites manage to stay open all year round. You can also find cheaper accommodation in hostels and guest houses, some of which are located in places as renowned as the Port of Ibiza, which has gained a reputation for amazing summer nights. Country hotels can be found inland, and staying away from the coast has become more and more popular, especially in the winter. People are discovering the joy of exploring the mysteries of quiet places, deserted beaches, far from the madding crowd, where they can forget about the stresses of everyday life.
