Where to Stay

Copenhagen boasts a variety of accommodations, ranging from the simplest of hostels to apartments and five-star deluxe hotels of international standard. Most of the finer hotels in Greater Copenhagen are members of Horesta's international star award scheme. Besides, many of the hotels has been awarded with The Green Key, which demands adherence to no less than 55 health and environmental requirements. This means the hotel strives to protect the environment by using environmentally sound cleaning products and detergents.

City Center

In the center of Copenhagen there are three important hotel streets: Vester Voldgade, Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade. Here, one hotel façade follows the next along the street. Accommodation on Vester Voldgade places the guest right in the middle of it all, between Strøget, Tivoli and Rådhuspladsen (the Town Hall Square), in an area of an abundance of shopping, leisure facilities and cinemas. Here you will find hotels like Hotel Danmark, the four-star Hotel Kong Frederik and the Palace Hotel. The Hotel Christian IV and Phoenix Copenhagen are two of the city's most luxurious accommodations.

The area around Kongens Nytorv and Nyhavn also has its fair share of places to stay; among them are the very well-known hotels D'Angleterre, Hotel Opera and the four-star 71 Nyhavn Hotel.

Vesterbro

Helgolandsgade and Colbjørnsensgade are both side streets off Istedgade, a few minutes' walk from Copenhagen Central Station. Istedgade has been seriously cleaned up in recent years and, actually, a great deal of fine and highly respectable hotels are situated in this area. On Helgolandsgade, also called the “hotel street,” you will find hotels such as the Saga Hotel, The Mayfair Hotel, Copenhagen Triton, Top Hotel Hebron and Hotel Absalon. In Coldbjørnsensgade you'll find the Hotel Selandia, Tiffany – a Sweet Hotel, Copenhagen Star Hotel, Hotel Ansgar, Hotel Cosmopole, Hotel Du Nord and Excelsior Hotel.

Many of the city's central hotels are located on Vesterbrogade, which runs further onto Frederiksberg and past the Zoo. The Savoy Hotel, Webers Hotel, Copenhagen Crown Hotel and Grand Hotel punctuate this long street. By Vesterport you will find the big Hotel Imperial and Copenhagen Richmond.

The most important hotel chains in Copenhagen include the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group, Best Western Hotels Denmark, First Hotels, Radisson SAS, Copenhagen Centre Hotels and Plaza Hotel Group. Radisson SAS has four luxury hotels in Copenhagen at various central locations. All fall into the deluxe category; the five-star Royal Hotel Copenhagen on Amager is especially famous for its exclusive casino. Arp-Hansen Hotel Group owns fine and central hotels such as Hotel Astoria and the Grand Hotel. Several other new hotels are available, for instance the five-star Marriott by the harbor front.

Frederiksberg

The upscale, mostly residential neighborhood of Fredericksberg also features some quality accommodations for those who prefer a quieter, more quaint atmosphere. Hotel giant Radisson has a hotel here, the Radisson SAS Falconer Hotel. Other hotels in the area are Cab In Copenhagen Express and Cab Inn Scandinavia, and the three star Avenue Hotel.

Amager

The island of Amager, south of the center of Copenhagen, features several hotels. Amager features several deluxe hotels such as Choice Hotel Dan and Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel. For something slightly more modest, try the Hotel Amager or the Hotel Flyverbo.

Greater Copenhagen

The Copenhagen suburbs also offer a rich variety of hotels, motels and hostels. Many of these lie in green surroundings by a forest or beach. Plenty of the hotels in northern Copenhagen are close to attractions such as the Deer Park, Bakken, Denmark's Aquarium and Bellevue Beach, whilst most of the southern hotels by Køge Bay are close to the coastline. Some options outside the main city are the Hellerup Park Hotel and the Hotel Fy & Bi. Other options include Herlev Kro Hotel, and Hotel Svalen.
