Introduction

The doyenne of Victorian spa towns, Harrogate has a certain kind of old-fashioned Englishness. Young and old come to enjoy the tearooms and the feelgood flower shows that fill the town with colour. Its most famous visitor, Agatha Christie, fled here incognito in 1926 to escape her broken marriage.
