Introduction

Daytona Beach is synonymous with super-charged speed. In 1902, playboy drivers Ransom Olds (of Oldsmobile fame) and Alexander Winston raced along the unusually hard-packed sands; and for over 30 years, records were made and smashed. Stock-car racing came into vogue during the late 1930s.
