Getting there & Getting around

Getting there

Cambridge can easily be visited as a day trip from London (although it's worth staying at least a night) or en route north. It's well served by trains, though not so well by buses. Trains run every 30min from London's King's Cross and Liverpool St stations (55min). There are also hourly connections to Bury St Edmunds (45min), Ely (15min) and King's Lynn (50min). Airlink/Jetlink runs an Intervarsity Link via Stansted airport, and buses to Heathrow and Gatwick airports (from Drummer St bus station).

Getting around

Cambridge is flat and easy enough to get around on foot, but you may want to hire a bike if you plan to venture further afield. Bus-wise, a free gas-powered shuttle stops at Emmanuel St in the centre and four bus lines run around town from Drummer St bus station.

If you're planning to drive, be warned that most vehicles are now banned from the centre of Cambridge. It's best to use the well-signposted Park & Ride car parks on the outskirts of town. Shuttle buses run between the centre and the car parks between 07:00 and 19:00.
