Slovakia's temperatures can drop below 0°C (32°F) in winter. Pack your warmest woollies if travelling from October to March - January is particularly chilling. After this, things begin to thaw out and you should cope fine with medium-weight clothing. The city has much to commend it in both summer and winter but those who equate snow with wet shoes rather than picturesque views should probably visit in the summer. July and August are the hottest months of the year.
