Pirkkala is a small municipality of 12,000 inhabitants about 10km south of the Tampere city center. Even though it can be seen almost as a suburb of Tampere, there is still a lot to see and do for the whole family. For one thing, Pirkkala has a very interesting and rich history. People have lived in these parts since the Stone Age, and for those interested in archeology there is lots of interesting information. The former Greater Pirkkala was much larger than the municipality is today; for example the area that today belongs to the city of Tampere used to be a part of Pirkkala.
