Hampden Park is Scotland's national stadium and home of the Scottish national soccer team. Established in 1867, it claims to be the world's oldest soccer stadium and currently holds the record for the largest attendance at a sporting event in the UK; in 1937, an amazing 149,000 people gathered to watch Scotland entertain England in an international match. Hampden Park recently underwent a £63 million redevelopment plan to make it one of Europe's premier sporting stadiums with a capacity of 52,000. 34,000 new seats replaced the old terracing, a new cantilever roof was erected and hospitality suites were built. It is hoped that Hampden will one day play host to a major world football event but in the meantime stars such as Tina Turner and Rod Stewart play concerts here to huge audiences.
