Legend has it that the gift of eloquence shall be bestowed upon anyone who kisses the Blarney Stone. Set in the wall below the castle battlements, the visitor, in order to kiss it, is grasped by the feet and leans backwards under the parapet. Blarney Castle was built in 1446 by Dermot McCarthy and its design is typical of a 15th century tower house. The grounds include an arboretum and gardens. Last admission thirty minutes before closing. Timings are seasonal, so refer to the website for more details.
