Some people leave places like New York and Chicago to get away from the hustle and craziness big city life. Jacksonville is a hidden gem often called a big little small town because of warmth and southern hospitality consistantly displayed by the people who've made Jacksonville home. The saying must be true "the warmer the weather the warmer the people". The city of Jacksonville offers a combination of the beach and the city life, if you want it. The fresh seafood at beach restuarants where most have outdoor decks and sometimes live bands playing, there is no such thing as bad view! A classic poolbar called Petes where you can still play pool for 25 cents a game! Most beaches like North Jax beach beaches are private but still open to the public 24/7. A place to take your family and or sweetheart for a romantic stroll along side the river on the riverwalk. Its water, bridges, smiling faces, and mostly sunshine where ever you go! And where else can you get a spin on convention with a drive thru Jamaican restuarant called The Pepperpot where you can order jerk chicken and rice and get it in less then 10 minutes. Some of the best southern cooking restaurants ever! Neighborhoods like San Marco and Riverside and Springfield, which have some of the most beautiful, classic homes rich in history without the pricey cost and the snobby people, plus a riverfront view to boot! A huge nightclub called Plush and the Leopard lounge, where all types of music is played, and a 4 am last call! Never try to compare any city in the south and especially in Florida to any other place in the the north or midwest there is nothing to compare. The mentality is different the people are different for obvious reasons. The passion of southerners concerning the hometowns can sometimes be funny when listening to the stories they tell. Jacksonville to me is not just a place to visit but a place to live. Some people leave their cities to get away for vacation but people in Jacksonville it's right in their backyard.
