I visited Minneapolis for a conference and was pleasantly surprised by what the city had to offer. The Walker Art Center's sculpture garden has world-class art, including "Spoon Bridge with Cherry" from Claes Oldenburg as well as sculpture from Henry Moore and Alexander Calder. I attended a regional theater performance of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" at the Guthrie Theater and found it completely entertaining. The downtown area around Nicollet Mall offers great restaurants and plenty of shopping. There is a very fun restaurant called Hell's Kitchen with theme-appropriate attired (but still not tacky) waitstaff serving a menu of food worthy of my neighborhood in NYC. In fact, there was another excellent restaurant called Mission American Kitchen. The menu is New American, and it is located in a mall, but don't let that concern you; it is most definitely not a TGIFriday's. I would go back to Minneapolis and recommend it to others. The people were very nice and there is plenty to see and do.
