New Orleans Sampler

five stars

New Orleans is like a whole new world! Everyone here is laid back and friendly, and the food... the food is to die for. If you're adventurous and interested in history and culture, this is the place. From museums to boat tours, upscale restaurants to cafes, New Orleans has it all. Don't miss out on Cafe Du Monde for coffee and breakfast treats, Pat O'Brian's for drinks, or any of Emeril's restaurants.

New Orleans , We Love It

five stars

We have just returned from our 5th Carnival clebration in New Orleans. It is a very romantic and beautiful city. In order to enjoy this City you have to adopt the attitude of the Locals and not let the small things bother you i.e.( if you order a cheeseburger and it comes without cheese just eat it an go on your way.)For the most part the locals are friendly and if they extend an invitation for a crawfish boil accept it an enjoy. There are enough attractions in New Orleans to easily keep you busy for a week. We have never felt threatened by anyone and usally the Police are watching out for you, they do not hesitate to tell you to leave an area you should not be in.

Music and food worth visit.

four stars

I really enjoy the music, the food and the whole atmospere in New Oreleans. I was there in August 2004. The weather is pretty hot and humid at that time of year but still a very fun place to be. We stayed on Canal Street. I enjoy being in this area because you can walk to the French Quarters, Bourbon Street and the market. If you like to gamble there is Harrahs casino. The river walk is peaceful and fun to walk down.

New Orleans is a UNIQUE, fun, antique shopping, and great food

four stars

MORE PROS: Live Bands are GOOD and plenty, Spirited People and always a festive atmosphere, Buildings are beautiful and unique reminiscent of the Old French, Street Artists are very entertaining and everywhere, some really BEAUTIFUL Antique finds if you search the stores in the tourist area hard enough. Weather is mostly warm, wonderful, occassionally it will get misty wet...but that just adds to feeling of being on vacation. The Gulf of Mexico / French Seafood Cuisine is the MOST UNIQUE you will find ANYWHERE.. and there is nothing like tasting how the locals make it! MORE CONS: The city is somewhat rundown and desperately need of renovations, there are scary-looking people lingering around the streets at night, I think unemployment and poverty are rampart in this city. I kept tripping on potholes on Bourbon Street both on the cobble stone sidewalks and the streets (which would get filled up with dirty water from an overnight shower)...they need to have better infrastructure where someone comes out with a asphalt truck and fills those little potholes everywhere..i guess it is hard to keep them from coming since this city is below sea level and has lots of water...it's gross, the street artists really want your cash (but that's understandable), and a lot of Tarot readers along the historical section sidewalks. Overall this city is a mix of nice and poor. The selling point is that it is very UNIQUE and is like an entirely different culture within the U.S. Try the experience, it is fun!! Just be safe and stay away from other less visited parts of town. Also stay with the crowds or the more touristy areas of town. You will have fun, enjoy great food, and sights. Since everyone is already talking about it, I will only briefly mention that the "Party Atmosphere" is hard to beat... Never in a city have I felt like there was a reason to party 24 hours a day... In New Orleans the people are so laid back, happy, spirited, the weather is always warm, the buildings are all beautiful... it is hard to imagine doing anything else besides going to the nearest bar (and there are a bunch of them abound!!!) and down drinks and watch the many and many live performances. It is more touristy and disneyland-like by day, at night the tourist area becomes a sorority/fraternity night out.

No place in the world like New Orleans!

five stars

New Orleans is a seductress - a gracious old beauty, totally comfortable with her years, who knows full well she still has the power to entice and enchant.
