(Report Problem)This is a city like no other. You can find good old cajun food or regular meat and potatoes. There's always a party on Bourbon and in the Quarter, but it can be quiet and serene in other areas. With the new theme park and riverboat rides, this place has everything. I'm glad I live here.

(Report Problem)Went to N.O. for the first time this past week- Stayed five days, which proved just about the perfect amount of time to cover all the top attractions. We stayed in a hotel right off of Canal St- The Best Western St Christopher- It was clean and VERY convenient to everything. Walked the French Quarter - it is very different from any other city I've been in the U.S. -- Jackson Square is beautiful- the week I was there ( 2/27-3/4)- wasn't very busy, so getting around and seeing things was very easy. Despite the postings about crime, the police were a constant presence and responded to even the smallest incident IMMEDIATELY- A local told me much of the Quarter police were undercover. Of course, it IS a city- and exercise common sense as in ANY city. -- Avoid "Mother's" restaurant- not good, there was a fight between two employees - one drew a knife-- Not a great atmosphere for eating. Try Deanies in the Quarter for seafood. The restaurant was clean and modern- Service was good, prices reasonable, food very good. I would also recommend Dixie International Tours- I took a city tour, which was given via small van- Not that comfortable, but large buses are NOT allowed in the Quarter- The city tour hit the "highlights"- history of the quarter, cemetery stop, garden district, St Charles Av, etc. I also tried their plantation tour- Oak Alley was beautiful! --Zoo and aquarium were also very good- The ride on the boat between the two was enjoyable- The Mississippi isn't very scenic on it's shores ( mostly warehouses) but it was interesting to see the dredging operations and the current is unbelieveable. The weather was great- Very enjoyable vacation. P.S. Check out Harrah's Casino- the largest in the US!

(Report Problem)New Orleans (aka N'awlins) is the most amazing, wonderful, exotically romantic city. It offers a multitude of culturally stimulating things to do. What other city can you take a sight seeing tour on a horse drawn carriage through a historic city, listening to jazz being played on street corners, taking in the aromas of cajun/creole food, watching fortune tellers, artists and mimes try to get your attention...then depart to get on an authentic steamboat to take a sunset cruise down the Mississippi while listening to Dixieland music and sipping on a hurricane. And this is only the first day! You still have the wonderful antique shops on Royal Street, the fabulous crawfish pies at Pere Antoines, the decadent desserts at Madelines, the unbelievable history of Jackson Square, the incredible beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde, the mystery of the above ground cemetaries, the grandeur of Tulane University, the ambiance of the Garden District, the romanticism of the street cars on St. Charles, the mysticism of the voodoo shops, the amazing shopping at Jax Brewery and the excitement of a nightlife like no other, to look forward to. You can also taking cooking classes in the heart of the Quarter so that you can go home and try to duplicate the food you've eaten, or perhaps head up to Canal Street, the home to innumerable stores that offer up deals on electronic equipment. Maybe you want to try your hand at winning some money and head over to the incredible casino...or maybe, just maybe, you want to sit under the torches at Pat O'Briens in the outdoor courtyard, and sip on a Hurricane while listening to some amazing live jazz and chill and do nothing at all. This is the Crescent City...and the sunset will never be more beautiful than when it sets on the Mississippi. Only when you've been will you understand the words to the lyrics, "Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans". I hope you visit...and like me, I hope you have the time of your life.

(Report Problem)The best food and music in the country, in my opinion! The worst musicians in NOLA are as good as the best musicians in your hometown. (That's a bit of hyperbole, but you get the picture.) The greasy-spoon/diner/deli food in NOLA is awesome (po' boys, muffalettas, jambalaya, gumbos, crawfish, oysters, etc.) and the higher-end restaurants include some of the world's best. I love that the city is old and somewhat "third-world", but doesn't try to hide that by Disneying itself up to look polished, safe and pretty. Its residents seem to be pretty cool people, too. If it's your thing, clubs and bars are open late, and you can take your drink with you when walking or cabbing from club to club. I hear that safety/crime may be an issue, but if you stay in the "tourist" areas (French Quarter, Garden District) you should be fine; and if you travel in a group you should be OK in most other areas.

(Report Problem)I enjoyed the cuisine, Jazz clubs and don't forget the drinks! This place is all about the drinks. I've never had mixed drinks that tasted so good! The only think I didn't like were the bathrooms. Yuck!

(Report Problem)I love New Orleans. I've been there twice before and am going again in a couple of weeks. If you like to eat, you should think about going to New Orleans. If you like to drink, you really consider New Orleans. If you like music, you should book your flight now. The whole French Quarter is a party for the senses! From the wrought-iron balconies to the jazz that permeates the Quarter, there is nothing like it in the world! (Or at least the U.S.) Going outside of the French Quarter can be a little scary, especially at night, but there are parts of Manhattan that I wouldn't go after dark. New Orleans is not a great place for kids, but you should go if the idea of ghost tours, Dixieland, and dancing until dawn entices you. Harry Connick, Jr. says it best, "Please somebody won't you take me to the City Beneath the Sea."
