We was expecting more jazz music and cajun/creole food options.

(Report Problem)We went in July/August. Needless to say, we knew it'd be HOT and HUMID but this was incredible. Being from the west, we're used to arid heat. Wet heat is another issue. Yikes! Definitely avoid walking around at night unless you're with a crowd--the panhandlers are abundant and they want large sums of money. One bum asked my brother if he could spare $100 "just for the night" and would not get out of his way. Scary. We stayed very near our hotel after that. We really liked the iMax theater at the aquarium. The aquarium was just OK. The boat ride on the Mississippi was great, mainly because the food was so darned cheap. We were students on a budget, so cheap food was our way of life. The zoo was nice. We got caught in a torrential downpour at the reptile house that was AWESOME. Oak Alley Plantation and Laura Plantation tour (Grayline Tours) was fabulous--a nice escape and change of scenery from the city. Oak Alley is amazing. Stay away from the Mint Juleps. Yecch. We also loved the D-Day museum. There is a new museum being built right across the street from that so be sure to go there for me. Overall, this was an interesting trip. Definitely worth it, but I don't think we'll be going back anytime soon.

(Report Problem)I have lived here in the New Orleans area all of my life. If you are looking for America's most unique atmosphere and food, come on down. You will not find people that are more friendly and helpful, food that is so delicious or some of the best music experiences around. Honestly, the only downside is high crime. DO NOT GO OUT AFTER DARK walking the quarter is my advice to tourists. You will see French and Spanish influences everywhere. Go to the French Market, the Cafe DU Monde, the Cabildo, the awsome Aquarium of the Americas, our great Audubon Zoo...visit our Lake Pontchartrain and Mississippi River. Ride the Natchez paddlewheeler riverboat, eat at the best restaurants anywhere. The wax museum and voodoo stuff is very weak, stay away from that. Wanna have fun? Just ask locals how to and where to go when you get here. We're friendly.

(Report Problem)This is my home away from home city. New Orleans has all that I need, when I need to get away from the hubby and kids. I reccommend this exoerience to all moms looking for a not so far get away who want a change of scenery and an all around awesome experience.

(Report Problem)I personally loved New Orleans. There is soo much history there! I loved walking around the French Quarter and the Riverwalk! The atmosphere is truely excellent. And those of you afraid of it being rowdy, etc. etc., it is really easy to avoid all that. Make sure you go to Cafe du Monde! I will admit that around nightime I felt a little uncomfortable, but I absolutely loved it during the day and I'm going back.

(Report Problem)I've been quite a few times and it is one of my favorite places to visit. There is always something to see/do. Deninitely leave the kids at home and let your hair down. I love the Blues but no matter what kind of music you like you'll find it in New Orleans. The food is superb.
