Stay away until airport finished.

one star

The Miami airport at this time is a major disaster. Hard to get into, bad service, airport cops either standing around, or trying to deal with very congested conditions and not helping much. Experience with ticket counter personnel at American went from one who was great, to one who was rude and obnoxious. I would highly recommend using Ft. Lauderdale airport instead (I had to pick up a package there, and it was a world different), and bypass Miami totally. Nothing good to report on this trip.

My Favorite Travel Destination!

five stars

I love Miami! I even lived down there for a year. Yes, the traffic is horrible, and the public transport is not of the highest caliber. The fact that the town has soo much to do and see makes up for a lot. There really isn't a place in FL that can compare to So. FL. Little Havana is a great place to get good food and interact with people. Dadeland, Aventura, and Dolphin Malls have everything you need. I love Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. The proximity to Ft. Lauderdale, the Keys, and Orlando make it a great destination. The beaches are georgous and there is always something to do. This place is not for everyone. Most people speak spanish and that is daunting to most Americans. The climate is oppressive in the summer for the unprepared/unacustomed. The Art Deco architecture, heat, and Caribbean culture make this town a must visit!

Well....

two stars

I have no idea how people are giving this city good reviews. This place isin't that great. The amount of people that visit anually, and amount of good, safe, clean walkable streets really don't meet up. This place is almost always overcrowded. It doesn't attract any people of class either. The cost of vacationing here is extremeley high for the quality of the service- clearks, waiters etc are very rude, and probably understaffed. Theft on the beach is a problem too. Things as peity as sunglasses get stolen. Parking is a HUGE problem... and I would not suggest trying... there is a lot of road rage too. I also am unaware about how people 'party on south beach all night'. The beach closes at sunset, except for special events, and the thugs, drugdealers, hoodlums, and homeless come out after dark and populate ocean drive, lincoln road, and all the south beach areas. South Beach is usually dead by midnight anyway, unless it's spring break. Crime is out of oc control too (Big suprise?) The only driveable/walkable areas are now limited to Sunny Isles Beach, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables, and South Beach during the day, and possible during the night if it's crowded. Ok now for the good stuff, it has a pretty nice beach and water. They are a lot of recreational water activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, kyaking etc. So, if you like the water, this is the place for you.

True definition of NIGHTLIFE!!!

four stars

I have been to Miami (among other parts of FL) 3 times, and this June will be my 4th. Stayed at Miami Blue Lagoon and that was very nice, very relaxing( what little time we spent there!) and it was extremely affordable. South Beach is unbelieveable if you're a night owl like myself. The bars downtown on Washington weren't nearly as great as I thought they would be. Over priced cover charge($30 ahead per pers. at one bar), watered down well drinks(cheap alc.), and believe it or not, MORE ghetto than Detroit! Overall, shopping there is nice, weather is to die for... and the beaches are BEAUTIFUL. I'm an up-beat, extremely energetic person... so the 'life' of Miami suits me just perfect. (they jus need more cops hanging around for the drunk cubans that like to follow u and hold slurred convo's w/ you!!!!! hahahaa!) I LOVED IT!!! PS. You really shouldn't worry about the little hoodlums b/c it's not as bad as some people say. Hoodlums are pretty much anywhere you go.

Why go anywhere else?

five stars

The experience there is amazing. Amazing if you are traveling with the right people that know all the spots and know where to go. South beach is my favorite spot by far but I love Aventura. I think what people miss about Miami is the fact that the beaches are incrediable, hotels awesome but most importantly the night life there is just exhausting. Miami has incrediable sunsets. There is nothing not to love about Miami.

Definately coming back!

five stars

The people were fun, great to get along with and were all beautiful. The beaches were always fun. The clubs were off the hook. The stores had me spending like crazy. I came back with a extra bag with just shoes, pocketbooks and sunglasses. I would recommend everyone to go there at least once or twice. I even considered moving to Miami,Fl. I spent most of my time on South Beach. I tried different foods at different resturants. I tried a fish called MAHI MAHI. It was delicious. I met different celebrities and they were even cool. They spoke, joked around and some even hung out with us. I only stayed for a week. It was the week of the VMA's (video music awards),so you know it was full of excitement. I met Trina,L.L. Cool J.,Tyson Beckford,Will Smith, Nelly,Murphy Lee and much more. I loved the weather, even when it rained. I did not want to leave. I LOVED IT! I LOVED IT! I LOVED IT!

Don't Believe The Hype.

two stars

Miami is okay if you're a first-time visitor. I grew up in Boston and saw how well and glamorous it was portrayed on TV and how it looked like such a great city. I ended up spending a few months here and boy was I fooled! Sure, they might have showed South Beach and nightlife, but how well was it portrayed? The traffic hear is a nightmare, the crime is out of control, unless you come in the fall, it is EXTREMELY over-crowded and uncomfortable to walk, the economy and unemployment rate is horrible, the cleanliness level has gone down dramatically, unless your a half-dressed barbi doll type girl, everyone is rude to you, South Beach has lost its cleanliness, the public transporation system and drivers in the city is horrible, and the problem with driving is, if you go even one block past your destination and make a wrong turn, you'll most likely end up in one of the dangerous areas surrounding the tourist areas, so you must be certain you know where your going. The parking is terrible as well, you'll end up having to park far away (possibly in one of the dangerous communities where your car might get jacked). other than South Beach and the rich southern suburbs, the entire city (Including everything surrounding south beach) is a dangerous ghetto full of crime, you need to watch what colors you wear if you leave ocean drive or you might be mistaken for having gang affliation and you're risking your life, Unless your over 21+ and looking for a one-night stand, the nightlife is horrible-most clubs are filled to capacity with abnoxious, rude, perverted males by the time nightfalls anyway. In no way is this a city to relax or have any peace or serenity. If your bringing your parter or your family, there really isin't anything to do. Like I said, it is okay for a first time visitor, but you need to be prepared that Miami isin't at all like it's shown in movies and TV. My advice is go to Ft. Lauderdale or Sunny Isles Beach for some peace, class, and serenity.

Why is this so fun?

five stars

I actually have family living in Miami, so I've never really stayed at a hotel there. (So no comment on hotels) Miami is a wonderful place despite it's overcrowded population. You could do absolutely nothing there and be having a blast! (Just be sure to keep the windows open! The weather can be scorching hot even in the winter.) I'm 13, and have always loved the city so I reccomend this place to families with teens, and kids maybe a bit younger than me. (Like 10 years old) It might be a bit boring for little kids. (Unless you plan on going to zoo every day.) We can't wait to go back! =D
