Fort Lauderdale has grown up to be a full size city and not just some beach destination. Downtown has many high rises office building, as well as condos and apartments. The city if very easy to get around in, but a car is needed. Huge variety of restaurants, from the cheap to the very expensive. The city is clean and safe. You will see plenty of BMW's, Mercedes, Jaguars, etc on the roads. The intracostal waterway is one of the features that makes this city so beautiful and unique. Dress is casual and summer can be hot, so dress cool and enjoy the breeze from the ocean under a palm tree!

(Report Problem)living in fort lauderhell is like living inside an armpit. the humidty and torpor is unrelenting. it is a steambath with mosquitos. the humidity is inescapable, even the most powerful air conditioning is ineffective. culture? literally everything is second rate at best. florida combines a complete lack of noteworthy colleges or universities, newspapers, museums, radio stations, music, and restaurants with an unending tableau of strip malls, gated developments on converted swampland, strip clubs and nursing homes. northern retirees come here to finish their days because of the intense sun and completely flat topography. they are everywhere, trudging behind wheelchairs and walkers like in a real life george romero film, a constant reminder of decay, infirmity, and senescense. don't forget that this is the deep south. open racial animosity, ignorance, and shallow perspective dominates. no wonder that it remains such an economic backwater. there are scant few national corporations based in florida, and many parents of college age students will not allow their children to attend schools out of state. - they realize that if their children leave, they will never return.

(Report Problem)Ft Lauderdale, along with the rest of South Florida, is a great tourist destination. Sunny and warm all winter long, it serves as a marvelous winter get-away location for the snow weary northeners all over the east coast and mid-west. It offers miles and miles of white sand, sun-drenched beaches and wonderful sailing on the Atlantic Ocean and Intercoastal Waterway. It is a cruise ship port of call, shopping mecca, and gourmet delight with restaurants for every taste. The Ft Lauderdale Airport is easily accessable and the pre-flight lines are much shorter and quicker than at Miami International.
