Napa is amazing...Sonoma is better

five stars

Napa wineries are out of the movies & you can't beat the scenic drive along Hwy 29 from Calistoga to St. Helena. Don't miss a mud bath in Calistoga, a bicycle ride along the vineyards or the Culinary Institute at Greystone in St. Helena. Hot Air Balloon Rides are also a memorable treasure. However, those of us who live locally know that although Napa is wellknown...the true secret is Sonoma County! Although, the wineries aren't as conveniently aligned in a row...you can find better wines at a better price, a more relaxed atmosphere w/ friendly folks and a ton of local harvests & festivals each month that feature dairy(cheeses),Olives/Olive oil and of course wine & art. Try staying on the Sonoma Square (my preference is Hotel El Dorado, smaller historic hotel) Sebastiani Winery, Viansa & Ravenswood aren't far!!! or more north (towards Healsburg/Alexander valley wineries)try the Vinters Inn (John Ash Restaurant onsite is fabulous).

Anxious for our next visit

five stars

I love visiting Napa! We go every year or so and have a marvelous time. Always dinner at a wonderful Mexican restaurant and then meeting up with family members nearby. The drive into town is beautiful and there are several wineries along the way.

We want to make this trip as often as possible!

five stars

My new husband and I will be returning to Napa to spend part of our Honeymoon there. There is no place quite as romantic and couple freindly than the great Napa valley. The shopping, the inns and the fablulous Calistoga Hot Springs and Spa make the trip priceless for us. Don't miss the great outlet shops outside of St. Helena. It's a great place to find great deals. We are happy to have a guide ready for the wine tasting we love to do. There are almost too many great wineries to stop at. Our all time favorite is Stags Leap Winery. We are hopeing to get into Cymus and Shafer, two other of our favorites

Visit Spring Mountain Vineyard, St Helena

five stars

Went to St Helena to see a friend, Spring Mountain Vineyard was the most incredible estate we visited while there. Beautiful estate with Gardens, wine caves and a wonderful tour/tasting in Victorian home with view of the Valley. What a wonderful place to visit, with some fabulous wines! A must see and drink!!

Great Honeymoon

five stars

My wife and I spent started our honeymoon in the wine country before spending the second half in San Francisco. Napa and Sonoma Valleys are beautiful, relaxing and inspiring places. Of course there are plenty of wines to taste (cheaper in Sonoma than Napa) and restaurants to try out but there is also hiking, golf, bike riding and small towns to explore like St. Helena. One of our favorite experiences was to go to the Culinary Institute of America in northern Napa Valley for a cooking demonstration and tasting. We also enjoyed riding bikes from winery to winery and joining too many of the wine clubs. The wine country is one of those places where you can do everything or nothing and have a wonderful time either way.

Average for California

four stars

The wine & beauty of Napa is Excellent, however, when the traffic is heavy, getting in & out of some of the vineyards is challenging. The cost per tasting varies & not all of the wineries (i.e. number of tastes, refills, glasses, discounts) are worth it.

Wine is fine

four stars

You need more than a day or two to take it all in. We only had one day, but did pretty good. Winery tour (Mondavi), gondola ride at Sterling (a must), Cakebread (popular smaller winery), champagne caves. Hear that the wine train is fun.
