I live a short distance from the Napa valley, and find that it's a refreshing getaway even though it's so close to home. Most of the vineyards are open daily to tasting, and if you have the means to take a wine tour (50-100$ per couple depending on the season) you are shuttled exclusively to the participating wineries and may taste as much as you wish. Another option is to drive about 45 minutes out of Napa into Sonoma county to the towns of Healdsburg, or Kenwood offer dozens of wineries and fine dining options. From either county, it is easy to pack a 3 day weekend full of sightseeing, tasting, dining, and entertainment at several local clubs and high-scale bars in the surrounding area. I would recommend this area to most anyone. You're very close to San Francisco, the ocean, amusement parks, nature hikes, and much more.

(Report Problem)Do you like the South of France, the finest food in a relaxed California style, wineries that are like an adult trip to Disneyland, small romantic places to stay, with prices half those of other world class destinations, then the Napa Sonoma valley is for you. I prefer the Spring with its yellow mustard and growing vines and the Fall "crush" times of the grape berry aromas that fill the air. The "valley" is less crowded, the waiting times at the best restaurants are shorter and your experience will be fuller. Charter a private jet with a few friends for the trip of your life time.

(Report Problem)I liked Napa because one winery may look like you're in Tuscany or the south of France and another could be a an old Victorian or ultra-modern. It's like Europe on Route 29!!

(Report Problem)Living only 31/2hr drive away, i'ts a great place to getaway. Anytime of the year is a good time to visit. Great hotels or BnB's,great restaurants and best of all great vineries.

(Report Problem)If you don't enjoy drinking wine then stay home. There are no wine deals like the old days anymore so forget shopping for it as you can buy the same wine for less at home. The vineyards and the country are beautiful.Food and lodging are also on the pricy side now. It's not a quaint little area anymore, it's the US wine industry.

(Report Problem)The atmosphere all around Napa is very laid back and relaxed. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and the people are very friendly. I plan on going again this year.

(Report Problem)Napa Valley is the like nowhere else in the world. It is magnificantly beautiful and preserved, apparently because laws had been passed to prevent certain kinds of development. We took advantage of the abundance there was to do (wine tasting, picnics, horseback riding, spas, Copia center, wine train, golfing...). We also did a lot of simple relaxing which the atmosphere was conducive to. We have travelled all over the world and the food here is some of the best (perhaps the best), fresh and very interesting, not to mention the great wine that went with it. Our group stayed in a beautiful vacation rental on the southeast side of Napa where deer greeted us each morning. This type of lodging allowed us to get more for our money (a real plus here). It helps to know when and where to go to avoid the crowds (for example, wineries on the Silverado trail). As with anywhere we go, it was helpful to do research ahead of time. We found the hospitality to be quite fine. While not inexpensive, it was a very memorable vacation for us and are already planning our next trip there.

(Report Problem)The real beauty of Napa lies outside the town and in the countryside. That is where all the vinyards and wineries are. Napa itself, however, is charmless. For a charming town try Sonoma or Healdsburg.
