THE place to visit

five stars

There is no better city to VISIT. Santa Monica, Universal Studios, dining and clubbing in Hollywood and Bev. Hills, movies, shopping in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Century City, the Dodgers, Lakers, Clippers,....unlimited posibilties! Stay at the Standard in Hollywood, Century Plaza in Century City or the Renaisance Hotel near the airport. Many times I get good deals on priceline.

LA...not real.

two stars

LA is completely fake. This city doesn't have it's own personality, and just mirrors itself from other cities. Let's not forget... LA is gang central.. so safety is a major concern. Hollywood is some run-down slum, just like most of LA. The people in Beverly Hills are insensitive and narrow-minded, and if your not local... you get criticized and stared at in a bad way. LA is for barbi-doll type chicks, half of who had plastic surgery by age 14, and skaters. The city is filled with wannabee actors, actresses, rappers, singers and thats it. No one with persoanlity or intellegence. LA Traffic is the worst among every city. It's like a parking lot on the road. Disneyland? Are you kidding me? My college campus is bigger than this. The rides are terrible, so are the rides and the cost of food, tickets etc. The OC... a bunch of boring, rich beach-front communities, usually populated by the older crowd. Venice and Santa Monica are pretty nice, with a lot to do. San diego is pretty cool too, except the surroundind suburban communities are all full of the rich. It seems like if your a down-to-earth kind of person, you won't fit in So. Cal. Unless you have a big ego and are stuck up, and cockey, you'll stick out like you would not believe. Other than the areas I mentioned.. everything else is a big ghetto. Watts, Compton, Inglewood, Santa Ana, Los Angeles, Santa Monica (After Dark), Hollywood, Long Beach, East Los Angeles, among other areas are unsafe. The public transportation system is horrible too, you need a car.

Not a good place to have conference

three stars

The Metro in LA is better than what I expected. Eating in downtown LA is a nighmare. There is basically no place to eat in LA after 6pm. The roads are so wide and there is not many pedestrains that you feel quite isolated from the neighboring blocks.

It's Either You Love It, Or Hate It...

five stars

Take it from a SoCal native and L.A. resident like me...I've lived and grown up in Los Angeles all my life from the 1970s to present. I've looked all over the U.S. to see where I wanted to move to if I ever had to leave L.A. Few cities come close: Vegas, NYC, Chicago, and Miami are my choices, but they all don't come close enough to L.A. in terms of the amount of things you can do. Most visitors go home disgusted or bedazzled about L.A. - It may not be for everyone and it can be just an acquired taste. You can go camping within a half hour drive behind Mount Wilson, go skiing at Mt Baldy in the winter if all the other ski resorts are too far, Go to Disneyland/Magic Mountain/Universal Studios/Knotts Berry Farm, go to any of our beaches, be in the desert in about an hour, be in Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear Lake within an hour, see our L.A. River or go to the Colorado River within 4 hrs drive, people watch in Beverly Hills/Hollywood, go dancing at the Roxy or any of the clubs in Hollywood/West Hollywood, dine on Sunset Blvd. or try Chinatown, L.A. DOES have a downtown, YOU choose: Downtown L.A., Century City, Hollywood (get famous), West Hollywood (where you can be happy and gay), Pasadena (college town and New Year's Rose Parade Home), Glendale (shop at the Galleria), Universal City (Universal Studios - totally), Santa Monica (Muscle Beach and SM pier is a great walk. Want to see some history? Go to Museum Row in the Wilshire District or visit Pueblo de Los Angeles or see the San Gabriel/San Fernando/Santa Barbara Missions - whew! Too much to list! Traffic I can say IS attrocious and I put L.A. 2nd after Tokyo and before Manila. Best time to see L.A. is during the spring months when the weather is just crystal clear or in the winter if you don't mind the rain or at times the freezing temps. Summer is always HOT but cooler along the coasts or head to the mountains in the summer to get fresher air or shade under the pine trees (not palm trees). Public transportation is a nuisance and for the first timer, rent a car and remember the mountains are always north of the city (when you're not in the San Fernando Valley). We want you to come to Los Angeles that's why we have 5 airports to serve you: LAX, Long Beach, John Wayne, Burbank/Pasadena, and Ontario. Have Fun!

God bless hippies!!!!

four stars

I liked Los Angeles and lived there for two years. It has so much to do for entertainment and its very fast-paced which young people will like. I personally think that the best part is taking a short drive to Malibu and watching sunsets on the beach during the summer afternoons. It doesnt hurt to watch that sunset while your rolling either. LOL!
