In my past 5 years living in La Jolla, I have become very attached to the wonderful weather and great beaches here. A good restaurant is always nearby, whether you want a quick, affordable meal or a nice, quiet wine-and-dine. The outdoor malls make shopping delightful and the relaxed atmosphere is inviting. However, many times the locals are not as friendly as one would like and the quality of service is almost always dependent on your appearance. Pacific Beach and downtown offer an exciting night life as well as friendlier locals.

The LaJolla coast offers something for everyone. The shops are clean and parking wasn't a problem. The ocean has many different views from the sea crashing against the rocks or washing onto the beach. The only negative part about LaJolla is set back off the highway and is not the easiest to navigate around the winding street, but the winding streets add to the attraction.

La Jolla is very pretty and safe, but its also very expensive and pretentious. The beaches going towards Pacific Beach are much better. La Jolla is geared more towards rich older people. Pacific beach is funner and friendlier and they also have great food. The restaurants listed in La Jolla aren't worth the money they charge.

I enjoyed hiking the cliffs of La Jolla and I want to go back and kayak into the sea caves. I recommend arriving early enough to find parking. I did not stay in a hotel nearby.
