I moved here from Kansas City. At last no more snow and no lawn to mow. I could't be happier. In the summer you just stay indoors but I did the same thing in Kansas City. You get two gardening seasons instead of one. South Mountain offers a great view of the city, The zoo is amazing, and if you love golfing and hiking this is the place to be. There are several water parks to help you keep cool too. The homes are amazing too. Pulte and Del Webb are real big here. It is so much fun to tour the model homes on the weekends. The only thing I can't stand is the traffic. The 101 is a parking lot during rush hour. Add rain to the mix and it is 10 times worse. Did I mention that people are very rude on the highways. You are guaranteed to be cut off at least once a day. Las Vegas, Laughlin, The Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Rocky Point are just a few hours away. It is always fun to visit Cave Creek north of Scottsdale.

(Report Problem)Like many here, I had lived in Chicago for 30 years, and dreaded the Chicago winter, the Chicago summer, the Chicago traffic, the Chicago taxes...get the point. Living in Phoenix is easy. Although housing has recently sky-rocketed, as it has everywhere else, this is still an easy place to live. The weather is perfect for 9 months of the year, and hot, hot, hot & humid for 3 months. You get to the point that you actually like a cloudy and rainy day every now and then. I have traveled to every city and state in the US, and this is where I chose to make my home. And, when it gets too hot here, we head to our cabin in Pine, at 6000 feet and only 90 miles away, but in another world. Plus, San Diego, LA, and Vegas are all quick hops away, either by car or plane. People like to make fun of Phoenix, and some of it deserved, but I would not live anywhere else. And last, it is mid-December and it is sunny (again) and in the 70's.

(Report Problem)Pros: Close to LA, San Diego, Vegas and Rocky Point, but actually affordable. There's a team for every major sport out there. Golf galore, amusement parks, shopping, dining, fishing, hunting, hiking, tubing the Salt river to name a few. There are plenty of jobs here, unlike the mid-west which is going through a crunch right now. Cons: Phoenix is huge, one side of the metropolitan area to the other is roughly 60 miles. Overrun with illegal immigrants. The city is a sea of cookie cutter homes, with no end in sight. Summers are hot, but that's why there's A/C. All in all, as long as your in a nicer area, one can live a good life. The fact that I'm running around in flip-flops while 2/3 of the nation if shoveling snow, will keep me parked right here.

(Report Problem)There are parts of Phoenix that are..decent and that is being gracious. For the most part, the city it bland and boring with not much to do asside from eating, sleeping, and catching a movie. Sports teams are hard to watch asside from the DiamondBacks, which may be a misrepresentation given the way they played last season. If your looking for a place where drivers don't care, red lights are suggestions, and making it to the end of the week saftely is a challenge all it's own, then this is the place for you. If your looking for a place to raise children saftely and enjoy your surroundings...keep looking.
