Went for Lobster at the Lobster House, which has been rated fairly high for a nice dinner. STAY AWAY! We were robbed of $45. Waiter wanted to show us the Iguanas in the surrounding trees upon our exit. The manager came out a few moments later and told us we didn't pay enough. 2-$20 bills and a $5 bill was removed from the payment. All reviews indicate VISA/Master card are acepted. We were told "I'm sorry we do not take cards" It took every penny we had to pay the $138 bill plus be kind and leave a nice tip. Also, the restaurant has a very foul smell - like sewer.

(Report Problem)I bought a bracelet from Diamond Port, which they said was real and I found out once I got here that it was a fake. Getting in contact with them has been a pain the ass. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM DIAMOND PORT, they even said they were a sister company of Diaomond International trying to make themselves seem honest. Not having any luck trying to solve the issue yet but still working on it

(Report Problem)We bought 2 rings which we were told were tanzinite to find out later that they were fake. Trying to get hold of them to resolve it. Not having much success. Don't shop at Diamond Port.
Great for: Beaches, Scuba/Snorkeling

(Report Problem)Cozumel seems to be one of the safest places in Mexico. Diving is top-ten in the world and very inexpensive ($55 for a two tank 5- hour trip). Hotels are cheap, too. The city is quaint and nice. However, increased volumes of tourists from the cruise ships (up to eight ships dock per day!) have raised prices on food and activivities, and caused a more "touristy" feel. If you plan on doing anything that a cruiser would do, you pay more....such as eating, shopping, activities such as boating and sea doos, etc. But, if you stick with diving and hotels, it's inexpensive....since the cruisers haven't driven up those prices. A bargain destinantion with some of the best diving in the world! Summer is very hot, very humid, very uncomfortable. Nov-Feb is optimum, with little rainfall. Water temp is 78-81F year round. CAUTION- AVOID BIKE AND SCOOTER RENTALS....THEY ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND ACCIDENTS ARE SEEN DAILY. USE TAXIS IF POSSIBLE INSTEAD OF RENTAL CARS TO AVOID PROBLEMS WITH POLICE WHO SETUP CHECKPOINTS AND HARRASS AMERICAN DRIVERS ON OCCASSION. TAXIS ON COZUMEL ARE GENERALLY HONEST, BUT WEAR YOUR SEATBELT. THE HIGHWAYS ARE DANGEROUS AND EVERYONE DRIVES WITH RECKLESS ABANDON THAT HAS TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED.

(Report Problem)My wife and I have visited Cozumel 4 different times, 3 times via plane and once via a cruise ship. Last summer we visited Cancun. We just wanted to see what all the fuss is about. We will probably never visit Cancun again. The Coz is the best! Wonderful water and beaches... great snorkeling. Plenty of shopping... who wants shopping and most of all, a place where you can relax and wash away all the stress of the U. S. We stayed all three times at the El Cozumeleno, an A.I. resort about 3 miles from town. There is no need to ever leave the resort unless you just want to. You must somehow find your way around to the other side of the island, either by rental car or scooter. Be careful, not all drivers are the best. There plenty of places in town to kick up your heels, but who needs it. Kick back in a hammock and relax.

(Report Problem)We visited Cozumel while on a day trip to there from Cancun in April of 2004. The trip consisted of a bus ride from Cancun to Playa del Carmen and then a ferry ride to Cozumel. Having experienced all 3 beautiful areas, to me, was an extreme treat. Though we only visited the main visitor areas of San Miguel, the main city (or only city?) of Cozumel, our shopping and dining experiences were wonderful. We ate at Casa Denis, which was up to par, but not as great as expected. If you plan to snorkel, Cozumel is THE place to do it...not only in Mexico, but it is recommended worldwide. Playa del Carmen was another really fun area to visit. The water was almost, if not just as blue and turquoise as Cancun's but the vibe from Playa is certainly a little more laid back than Cancun's. Cozumel's vibe was even moreso since its a little ways from all the busy-ness of the mainland. We would certainly consider visiting Cozumel and Playa again...but Cancun is a definite must! Puerto Morelos is another place of interest to visit for a day (located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen). Thanks :-)

(Report Problem)I took a trip to Cancun in Sept '03 and had one of the best vacations of my life. The city of Cozumel is everything that Cancun is not (no big hotels, commercialism, drunk high school kids, etc). Cancun allows folks who are past their prime in terms of partying, to enjoy a quiet vacation without looking at Vegas like hotels (ala Cancun). Also, for those who are thinking of taking up scuba diving for the first time, Cozumel is one of the top 3 places in the World. I went through a company (Deep Blue Scuba) and took a private certification course with a instructor named Luiz. He was unbelievable in every aspect. I was certified in 3 days (crash course) and did 2 open water ocean dives on the last day. I can't tell you how much of a difference it is to scuba dive versus snorkeling. It was truly amazing. For those of you thinking about a trip to Mexico, I would highly recommend Cozumel as your place of destination.
