I've just recently moved for a year or so, but I've lived on the outskirts of Ottawa most of my life and have spent a lot of time in it and it's fantastic. There's loads to see and do, and it's all fairly inexpensive. It's not too terribly hard to navigate around the city, either. Want to go from one side to the other just hop on the Queensway and away you go. The Tulip Festival every summer is definitely something to mark on your calendar. And for you winter lovers, why not skate on the Canal; the longest outdoor skating rink in the world. Oh yes, and we have no seals in Ottawa... you'll have to go up north for those!
Great for: Beaches, History/Culture, Theatre/Music, Nightlife, Family Holidays
Last Visit: august 2005

(Report Problem)Friendly, bilingual Ottawa is a picturesque breath of fresh air! The quintessential Canadian city has many good restaurants in the colorful By Market area. The National Gallery of Art is really cool too, with stunning architecture, overlooking the Ottawa River.

(Report Problem)Visited the city twice, once in late November and once at the beginning of July. It was beautiful at both times and the people are extreemly friendly. The town is easy to get around and very clean. Not only is this a great place to visit for the Arts but the festival at the beginning of July is one wild party! If your traveling with a pet stay at the Ramada downtown, they have no extra pet fees and are only a block off the main drag. We stayed in a suite near the top of the hotel and had a great view over looking the town. And while there were demonstrators and protesters for a Global Enviroment Confrence in Nov. and the party goers in July, this is still one of the safest cities I've ever traveled to. Even while walking the dog at 11:00 pm. The dog suggests an early morning stroll to parliment hill for some quick pigeon chasing across the lawns. When travelling thru Canada I will always stop and make time to enjoy this town.

(Report Problem)Never been to Ottawa and now have no desire to go. I condem the killing of seals and the barbaric way it is done in this region. Seals as young as 15 days old are hacked to death for the pelts. These people are deviant and sick.

(Report Problem)This is a great mid to large sized city offering wonderful cultural attractions and a solid cafe, bar music scene. Some of Canada's best known music artists have come from Ottawa: Paul Anka, Bruce Cockburn, Alanis Morrisette, Sue Foley, Lynn Miles, Kathleen Edwards, etc.Comedians too: Tom Green, Luba Goy, Rich Little, etc.The NAC Orchestra is probably the best in the country. It's a great place to visit. A couple of points in your own intro. The city might be 330,000 but the area is considerably larger. I was told 1.2 million. You should list Montreal as a close destination.
