Oxford

five stars

As one of the most famous cities in the UK there is little I can say about the cultural and architectural point of interests that is not already well known, it is in brief then that I comment upon the city itself. As you would expect Oxford town has the atmosphere and attractions it is so well known for, with increasingly pedestrianised streets and the covered market this is a city built for admiration. The cost of activites is as you would expect and as it is a heavily student populated location if you are looking for a bargain or a cheap place to eat all you have to do is ask. The city is concentrated into two main areas, with retail in one and cuisine in the other. Jericho and Little Clarendon St are renowned for their variety of restaurants though some you may want to avoid unless you're looking to be swept into a college crew date. Safety in oxford is very good, like almost everywhere these days you have to be sensible - avoid the darker narrower passages around town and stick to the main streets you'll be fine. There is a highly homeless population but so far as a frequently innebriated lone female I am yet to have a problem. There is an intense police presence around the town at night both on foot and in patrol cars, which is a comforting reassurance. The only places I would recommend you avoid is ship street and the side roads in that vicinity as they are where most of the problems tend to be. On a whole though Oxford is a very welcoming destination where even the homeless are polite (I once has a very interesting conversation on the night bus with one such fellow). All that is left to say is Welcome to Oxford!
