The city that has everything

five stars

I've been both a tourist and a resident of Edinburgh. It is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been too, with lots of historical buildings including a medieval castle. The city is also very cosmopolitan with several theatres. There are fabulous bars, restaurants and shopping. The city has a small-town feel - it's definitely a walk-able city. Close by are parks, beaches, cliffs, golf, sailing. Can be crowded in August during Arts & Fringe Festival

SEE YOU AGAIN SOON!!!!

five stars

I loved the atmosphere! - loved sitting in the park on Princess Street. Loved whenever it rained, and everyone got their umbrellas. Being there during the Festival was a wild experience as well. And people are just so nice and very hospitable! THANKS!! Studying there is great!

Edinburgh

five stars

Edinburgh is like a brand new computer wrapped up in an old antique box, It is a superb mixture of modern and old. I enjoy Edinburgh's true beauty every day as I am lucky enough to live here. Edinburgh is a superb city with a very welcoming atmosphere. I would persuade anyone to come to Edinburgh.

A thoroughly enjoyable city

five stars

I recently returned to Edinburgh (I used to live in Scotland) and rediscovered this city. I went with a group of three other friends and stayed right along the Royal Mile (in the off season there are apartment rentals along the Mile for L325-450/week). As for things to do around the city, of course, the Castle and the Palace (anchors of the Royal Mile). Along the Royal Mile are the Camera Obscura, St Giles Cathedral, the Real Mary King's Close, and many other place. Additionally there is the Museum of Scotland. Want a nice hike to a magnificent view? Hike up the 800+ feet to the highest point in Edinburgh, Arthur's Seat. A nice hike, but best done in the daylight, the view is better, as it the return down the slopes can be a bit hard to find. For live music look around the many bars and pubs, but the area around the Grassmarket seem to have the highest concentrations. All in all, our group had a wonderful time during our 7 day fall trip (November), even if the nights come too early. Also consider the 45 min train ride to Glasgow to experience the other side of the country.

An amazing place to be!

four stars

I spent 6 weeks in Edinburgh, and would love to go back!! It's an amazing place where the people are friendly, the city is clean, and there are countless things to do. I highly reccomend visiting the national scottish museum, King Aurthurs Seet, and spending some quality time on the Royal Mile. For some nightlife activity, I reccommend visiting some of the local pubs. There is never a dull moment at any of them, and always someone is there to make you laugh. Scotland is a beautiful place, and well worth the $$$$ spent to go visit.

My FAVORITE European city!

five stars

Edinburgh is the most magical destination in the UK. It is a city steeped in history and tradition, but the people make it a dynamic and lively place to visit. Don't miss the castle, a slightly more costly tourist attraction for the budget traveller, but well worth every pence. Try to find a restaurant with a magestic of it at night too...breathtaking. Also, don't skip the haggis, its delicious and gives you an opportunity to taste old world Scotland.

Will go back again one day.

five stars

Beautiful, fun, never a dull moment! My husband and I are not much for sight seeing.... we'd rather be active even if it is just walking downtown. There is sooooo much to do and the people will go out of their way to answer questions, give suggestions or just help find your way. One of the best trips ever.

A Bonnie Destination

five stars

Scotland is a fantastic place to visit and the people are wonderful and friendly. We visited in 1998 and were very nearly adopted by our B&B hostess. Compared with England, Scotland is much less expensive to stay and eat. Pub meals and B&B's are a savings and accomadations are usually wonderful. Once getting downtown, Edinburgh is a great walking city. Shops are fun to browse. Make time to walk the Royal Mile, visit Edinburgh Castle and get your picture taken with one of the guards, see Holyrood House including the ruins and beautiful gardens. Maybe take one of the of the fun walking tours. If you are not brave enough to try Scotland's specialty dish Haggis (and I wasn't), start with their desserts. You should make sure to try Luxury or Millionaires Shortbread (depends on the shop) and Sticky Toffee - both are desserts we still fantasize about. I did not get to nearly enough while I was teher and an't wait to go again and fill in some gaps on my itinerary like the catacombs, National Gallery and more pubbing.
