Geneva, to many, can seem rather pricey. For example to orange juices in a restaurant cost the princely sum of £10 one evening... but shop around and there are plenty of places charging more sensible prices. Geneva is an ideal place to stay if you want to explore the rest of Swizterland and parts of France. Beautiful ski resorts such as Chamonix can be reached within an hour and large French cities like Lyon are in easy reach. Geneva is set against its famous lake, with the fringes of the alps surrounding the city. The people are friendly, the service is excellent (with good English abundant) and transport is superb! Key places to visit include the UN, several museums, lake Geneva, the shopping quarter, the old town and there are plenty of well-run trips to choose from across the lake, to the mountains, vineyards, countryside etc. I'll be going back for sure.

(Report Problem)Great for a long weekend - hire bikes and cycle round the lake, visit a spa and bathe in warm bubbling water surrounded by breath-taking moutain views. Check out the force or the "jet d'eau", the enormous fountain in lake Geneva which towers over the city skyline. Not the cheapest destination, but well worth a short visit.

(Report Problem)I lived here for 3 years. If you must visit here, it's maybe got enough to do for a few hours tops ... Montreux with Chillon castle on the other side of the lake that Geneva sits is more worthwhile - and if you merely want a Swiss fondue meal, can simply go to the main Swiss city, Zurich, or else a ski village. Geneva is also a bit dirty for a Swiss city, and has a bit more of a nervous, impulsive French feel (terrible traffic, cars try to run you down) than the more peaceful German-speaking parts of the country. Anyway, don't be fooled - this city has a high profile because the United Nations is here; not because it is an exciting place.

(Report Problem)I only stayed in Geneva for one day in the summer of 2003, but found that it was possible to see a lot in a short amount of time. I stayed at the Ibis Geneve Aeroport and took a bus to downdown Geneva for the day. The Ibis was a very nice hotel, with a nice cafe in the lobby. A hotel bus picked me up at the airport when I arrived and took me back to the hotel. I spent my day in Geneva taking a boat ride on Lac Leman, taking a train ride around the city, walking around in the nearby shops, and enjoying the atmosphere around the Jet D'eau. I would highly recommend spending time in Geneva! Even if it is only for 1 day, it's worth it!

(Report Problem)Actually, there are more dislikes than likes, but i will start from what is good: 1)nice shopping 2)useful transport system 3)everybody speaks good english 4)pleasant historical center and nature Now about dislikes: 1)everything is very expensive. Even if compare wih prices in London, Paris and Rome! 2)TOO much foreigners 3)shops are closed on sundays 4)geneva is a quiet place. A few night clubs/discos, nothing to do on sunday etc 5) giant taxes and fines 6)just boring!

(Report Problem)used to live and attend school in geneva. amazing city with lots of history. a total walking town, too. On clear days the Alps can be seen from downtown and the Jet D'Eau is one of the most beautiful sites, day or night. Take the time to drive up either side of the Lake to see Nyon or Evain. Take the boat from either or to get a true feel of the Lake. Geneva is also located in the heart of Europe..so its easy to get to everywhere else if you fly into the city.
