(Report Problem)Even though we only spent 1 day there on either side of our cruise, we loved it. The city is beautifull laid out, wide open roads, no/little congestion and friendly locals. We're planning our next trip to Spain already, to see how the other cities/ villages compare! Barcelona welcomed us as we got off the flight with beautiful weather and friendly faces. With a fair amount of difficulty, we managed to explain to the Taxi driver that we needed to get to port. The taxi ride was also a bit expensive, but this is a European standard. After disembarking from the cruise, back in Barcelona, we managed to get a full day of sight-seening in. The Sagrada Familia was nothing like the pictures! It's just awesome! The Gaudi buildings, lizard etc, all fantastic to see. Feeding the doves on the square, having hundreds of little feet and wings in your face - priceless! All in all, a fantastic city to visit, that deserves a 2nd and 3rd visit!

(Report Problem)Flew in with Ryanair to Reus, and it was a 90 minute bus ride to Sants Estacio station. Ryanair also flys into Girona which is to the north but it costs twice as much as flying into Reus. Once there I walked to the Palau National it is a spectacular site as all the fountains were turned on, and the Palau sits on top of a hill. It took awhile to get up there and the Palau Saint Jordi and Estadi Olympic are close by and you can enter the stadium. I then went to the famous La Rambla street, it is full of tacky souvenier sellers and overpriced eateries. After that walking along Port Vell was nice as the sun was out and the yachts were going into the harbour. The Palau de la Musica Catalana has a great mosaic facade, but it is difficult to take pictures of as nearby buildings are so close to it. Barcelona is an easy city to navigate as most of the streets are organized in a grid and are clearly marked, I also used the public transport buying a 10 ride ticket for 6 Euros. The Catedral de Barcelona was almost completely covered by scaffolding when I went. The La Pedrera apartment complex is weird looking and the Sagrada Familia is the highlight of the city with its 8 huge spires. The cable ride from Miramar to the beach is a waste of time, as the views are not that much better from the Montjuic. I went to the Castell but as the train wasn't working I had to walk all the way up, and it is a very long walk up the steep roadside. Once inside you do get the best views of the city.
