More time needed

No matter how much time you allow for your visit to this city it will not be long enough. The architecture is breathtaking and the Hermitage needs a week to really do it justice, try to include a visit to The Mariinsky Theatre. I found the hotel staff really friendly and helpful and getting about is easy with the underground. One piece of advice select a hotel towards the northern end on Nevesky Prospekt it will cut down travelling distances to the major tourist sites.

My favourite city in the world

St Petersburg is very fresh as a popular destination yet quite old as a city. As it was almost closed for international tourism before 1991, the city has a lot to show and offer to foreign visitors. It's really diverse and surprisingly opulent. If you visit St Petersburg once, you will want to go there again and again! The reason for that? Must be that very special aura you don't find anywhere else...

culture shock!!

Cosmopolitan city, great food, great cafes, fabulous buildings and works of art. People are very proud of their heritage and very friendly. St P is an amazing place, well worth a visit and I can't wait to go back 'cause I didn't see half of the museums etc in my weeks stay. Temperature in the 30s, 24 hr daylight and they do have beaches!!

St Petersburg; a sweet secret

If you are a history buff, as i am, and are interested in russian history and culture, St petersburg is richer in these than Moscow. The Hermitage is a must see,for the art collection and for the fact that it used to be the winter palace of the Tsars. There is wonderful opera and ballet, and the theatres and churches are quite beautiful. I suggest you go in the summer, because the winters are quite cold, and the sun begins to set around 3 p.m.

Exellent place-museums,edifices,people,cuisine- the hermitage, russia museum, palaces, are unique! RUSSIANS VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.
