great city

five stars

I really loved the city , it is easy to get around in either on foot or by public transportation. I stayed at the Hotel De La Haye and was treated very well. Actually everyone I met was quite friendly and very willing to help with directions or information

I would live there all year if I could.

five stars

I go to Amsterdam 3-5 times a year. I was so taken by it I bought an apartment there so I can live like a local when there (I also rent it out when I can't be there). One of the most beautiful cities in the world. Most everyone speaks english and are all very helpful. Like many others have written: it is not just a drugs and prostitute city. On a sunny sat or sun afternoon: just sit by a canal with a beer and a sandwich and watch all the large and small boats go by. Most of the resturants are good value: remember dinner is an event, so if you are in a big hurry go to a sandwich shop. If you can't be there in the spring when the Kuekenhof is open, and you love flowers, go to Aalsmeer to the flower auction. I think everything in Amsterdam is WORLD class. The only reason why I put 4 stars for safety and value: it is an urban city and like ANY urban area you have to be conscious of your belongings when in any crowded area. And as for value: of course it isn't the cheapest city in the world, but I don't think you would be cheated by any prices you see either.

two stars

The dirtiest place in all of Holland. Yes the museum's etc are great, but you can find much better places to visit such as Delft.

Gotta go again!!!

five stars

I had never been out of the USA until last summer and this was our first stop on the tour. There were so many different things to do and see. The locals there were extremly helpful and kind. Most people spoke english. The concert halls were breath taking. The weather in early July was very comfortable. I am, however, glad that I took a jacket. The only thing that was confusing was walking and getting disoriented by the canals. Even when lost, the locals were more than happy to offer directions. Food was wonderful and the hotel we stayed in was very quaint. If you have never been there before, count it as one of the must see places.

I love Amsterdam & have been there several times. Every time I go I discover something new & exciting. This is not just a drug & prostitute place! There is so much history there & wonderful shops. Oh & don't forget the beautiful tulips & windmills.

More than windmills and tulips!

five stars

FUN! FUN! FUN! And even educational, if you like. I was surprised at just how many great museums and restaurants there are in Amsterdam. You can do all the regular "tourista" things - and a whole lot more! Best dining deals in town are found in the miriad of Tapas Bars. I had dinner every night for under 20 EURO - including beers and dessert!!! Advise anyone who dislikes crowds to go in Feb/Mar or Oct/Nov. Prices are much lower and the only place you'll wait in line is at the Anne Frank Huis. Can't wait to go again!!!

five stars

I really look forward to see the tulips, the windmills and the canals. Also like to see the old castles and other relics and artifacts in this side of the world. like to visit the galleries of the famous artists like van gogh and rembrandt.

Nice weekend

four stars

I flew by Ryanair to Eindhoven from London, and it was actually a 2hr bus trip to get into the city. There are lots of historical buildings to see such as Anne Franks house, and also the museums have good bones such as the Van Gough and National Museum. The canal boatride I took wasn't that good, as you can't really see much of the buildings from the canals, so it is better to walk around. Lots of people know english, so it isn't too difficult to communicate with people, but you have to be careful with the streetsigns since it is very easy to get lost amid the winding streets.

Lovely Amsterdam

five stars

Amsterdam is so much more than I thought it would be. I must say I had certain expectations before visiting Amsterdam, but it surpassed everything I had heard. There's so much to see and so much to do. Arts, culture are ever present in Amsterdam. And there's no shortage of café's, bars, clubs either, which although a bit pricey are definately worth it. I'm definately going back next summer. Everyone should visit Amsterdam atleast once in their lifetimes.
