A once beautiful city now turned to a den of profiteering. Six euro's for a beer. Graffiti on the walls. Some of the backstreets a model of squalor. Some of the canals doubling as open sewers. Tacky gift shops on every street (quite often many on the same street). Rubbish everywhere. The conveyor belt approach as people are wheeled through San Marco, and the jobsworth attitude of its' stewards (this is a house of God for pity's sake!). How can I possibly love this place when it is clear that its' residents don't?
