The first thing I noticed upon waking up in my hotel room was the serenity. The lack of automobiles in the lagoon city is a wonderful change of pace for those that may deal with the hussle and bussle of larger European vacation destinations. The only noises coming into my room were the distant sounds of shoes hitting the streets, and a worker nailing something into place at a nearby building being restored. It is a smaller city than some may realize, but with so much of interest in the way of architecture and art packed in, it is possible to spend an entire day in only one sestieri (Venice is divided into six zones). The Rialto market is a wonderful opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and veggies, as well as fresh seafood (although unless you have a kitchen in your hotel or you are renting an apartment, you can only drool over the seafood). The ice cream that is sold in cafes next to the streets is unparalled for those who are used to American ice cream shops. The cuisine is fantastic if you visit any of the really authentic, out-of-the-way Venetian restaurants, but even if you eat at a place that caters mainly to tourists I doubt that you will be disappointed. This is a nice city to visit for 3 to 4 days, just to unwind and relax, wander the winding streets and absorb what's left of La Serenissima, even if it is mainly a city for tourists now. If you go in early spring or late fall you can still get nice, mild weather and avoid the surge of tourists that come in June and July. Those looking for "convenience" may be irritated at the odd way of numbering buidings in the six districts, but then if you are looking for a sterile vacation experience you would not be here in the first place. Venice is a must for any European tour!

(Report Problem)Venice is a city that is romantic and full of mystery at any season of the year. It is beautiful in the winter with the snow falling, and summer nights waltzing under the stars, dining in the hillside towns drinking homemade wine, or drinking Viennese coffee and eating Sachertorte on a cold, rainy fall day; visiting the Clock Museum is a little-known but very special delight.

(Report Problem)One of the most interseting cities of italy and I love it even more based on how its photographed if photographer knows how to read the lighting in all type of awkward situations. One thing that facinates me is the use of costumes to city's atmosphere. I find mardi gra very interesting.

(Report Problem)My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon in Venice. I loved it. Pictures cannot do the city justice. We found plenty to do and multiple places to just sit and relax. I loved the fact that almost all the food places were overlooking the water. The only drawback to visiting was the prices-very expensive. We went in late August and the weather was perfect, no crowded, and very nice people.

(Report Problem)We found Venice to be OK but when we were there it was quite dirty and to make it more disappointing it appeared to be the locals contributing to this. On many occasions we saw local boat drivers throwing cigarette butts, plastic and paper into the canals. We also saw more people (men) spitting on the pavement than anywhere else. We tried 3 recommended restaurants and found them to range from "the worst meal we have ever had in a restaurant" to the best of the three which was just OK. Venice has some lovely things about it but needs to address the environmental issues. We much preferred Florence especially for the food.

(Report Problem)I've been to Venice many times and have never had anything but good experiences. The people are friendly, the food is great, it's beautiful, charming and unique. I'm amazed when people say they don't like it! The only drawback is going at the height of tourist season when it gets a bit too crowded. Don't go to Italy without seeing Venezia, and make sure to go off the beaten path, explore all the little bridges and winding streets! It's a photographer's paradise.

(Report Problem)Venice was so wonderful. My family and I enjoyed walking everywhere. The people were so friendly and we stayed at a B & B. It was a great experience. I have been to Italy several times and this was my first time in Venice. I would go there again and stay longer.
