I have visited several places in the world, in terms of relaxing then I would rank Venice is number 1 and the following would be Bali Island in Indonesia and third would be Redang Island in Malaysia. Venice is such an amazing place which you won't see any cars because there NO ROAD but only a canal. Yes, most of their foods are overpriced, because the residents have no others industry for them to survive but only tourist business. But this also makes the people there are nice, helpful and polite to the tourists (compare to Milan and Rome). Very beautiful and is a perfect place for relax.

(Report Problem)Peggy Guggenheim Collection is a complete waste of time not work the entrance fee. Much better off going to the islands. Been here every year for the last 8 years and still not seen it all. If you get there the 2nd weekend in september the venice festival and film fest are both on. The lido is not much there only comes to life at film fest

(Report Problem)A once beautiful city now turned to a den of profiteering. Six euro's for a beer. Graffiti on the walls. Some of the backstreets a model of squalor. Some of the canals doubling as open sewers. Tacky gift shops on every street (quite often many on the same street). Rubbish everywhere. The conveyor belt approach as people are wheeled through San Marco, and the jobsworth attitude of its' stewards (this is a house of God for pity's sake!). How can I possibly love this place when it is clear that its' residents don't?

(Report Problem)I loved my time in Venice, but there were also so many negatives, that at the end, I can only sum it up as a "positive" experience. I think the best aspect and the worse aspect of Venice is the people, the Venetian women are so kind, pleasant and helpful, but some of the "gentlemen" can be so arrogant and disdainful, you wonder why you ever bothered to visit. What makes it worse is that these individuals see no problem with ripping you off and treating you badly in the process. But apart from that, Venice is wonderful. I loved the quieter parts of town (e.g. Castello) where you can soak in the tranquil, laid back atmosphere, then relax near a fountain after a long exhausting walk. Sitting in San Marco Piazza at night, listening to the music played by the cafe musicians is an unforgettable experience. I found that a 7 day stay in Venice was a bit too long, as it is very expensive (it was a shock even though I'm from London-7th most expensive city in the world), and the novelty wears off after approximately 4 days. You are better off staying in a hotel in mainland Italy, as this gives you a good base to travel to Venice for a day trip-thus avoiding the expensive accomodation and food bills, but giving you the option of exploring other parts of Italy by train (at very reasonable fares).

(Report Problem)I went last week with my school and I thought it was brilliant! We went on a gondala (or however you spell it) and, in my opinion, a must-do. you get to see all the back streets (rivers!) of Venice. The only draw-back was the smell of the water - but you get used to it!

(Report Problem)What a magical place! How anyone can leave and not appreciate how unique an experience they have encountered. Once you have done around St Marks put your guild book in your bag and wonder along the canals and over the bridges, you always find something great to look at. Have done it twice and find that I do want to go again.....

(Report Problem)this place has lots to see but is spoilt by a generally untidy feel and can be a bit of a whiff from the water on hot days. Very crowded so come early or in the evening for best atmosphere.

(Report Problem)We used Lido de Jesolo as a base and the 1 hour trip to venice is very cheap using public transport. A full day ticket covering all buses, ferry and vaporetto cost only about 15 euros in 2005. If you take your own packed lunch and water you can save your self a lot of expense - nice park just round the corner from St. Mark's with public toilets at 50 cents. and fewer pigeons- or use McDs in a side street on the other side of St. Mark's Use the day ticket to hop from place to place - and it covers the gondolas that cross the grand canal -and don't forget the islands - Lido,Murano, Burano etc. Don't follow a map, just wander using the signs for Rialto and St. Marco and discover somewhere new each time - but if you spot some thing you like buy it there and then - you won't find it again. A magical cheap day out!
