My favorite place

five stars

As a vacation destination, you cannot beat Rome. The history, culture, food, architecture, and religion combine to produce a magnificent experience. I wish I could return every year to expperience new things and to return to my favorite spots. Once you figure out the bus signs and the Metro, it is easy to get to anywhere. Even walking isn't that bad, but be prepared to use a map. My personal favorite was the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. A close second was the Pantheon. Then again, how can you prioritize "Roma?"

True Rome-

five stars

You absolutely need a good pair of rubber soled shoes, tennis shoes won't do. Walk as much as possible. The subway is crowded and dirty. If you don’t feel like walking or it’s too far a cab ride across town isn’t expensive, about 15 euros including tip. Rome is not hard to navigate as long as you have a good map. I picked my map up at the Colosseum gift shop. The people of Rome are kind and friendly, if you try to speak Italian they will try to understand and some even speak English. Dress as an Italian to fit in better. The best complement we had during our trip was two different people asking for direction because we looked like Italians. Solid colors, black was my favorite because it could go with any scarf, are you best bet. Scarves, if you are a woman, you should wear one, around your neck or with you coat, it doesn’t matter. Most women in Rome wear one of some fashion or another. A tip I learned was that Italian women don’t swing their arms when they walk. They also don’t smile to random people, or greet those they don’t know on the streets. While this seems rude or mean, I take it as not talking to strangers, most of us were taught this when we were children. The best food I had the entire trip was at a little restaurant named Tosca at 83/84 Lagro dei chiavari, my first meal in Rome, good true Italian food and great service. The restaurant we went to a Piazza Navona was overpriced and had bad service a usual tourist spot. My suggestions are to grab whatever the hotel offers as breakfast, then have lunch at one of the cafés late in the day, go back to the hotel to rest and refresh, then go out for a big dinner around 8 o’clock at night. This is the time when most Italians are out strolling, giving you a great opportunity to people watch at you eat. The thing to remember as you plan your trip, you will never see all of Rome. It’s impossible! This city is thousands of years old with so much history. See what interests you most and plan to come back sometime to see more. It is an eternally changing city. MUSTS: Colosseum , Pantheon, Vatican City, the Forum, Piazza Navona at night, Castel St. Angelo, Museum at Piazza del Campodoligio (near forum), A taxi ride, Tosca restorante- pizzeria Largo dei chiavari, and the Vatican museum ( Sistine Chapel).

I can't wait to go back

five stars

I loved the historic sights, and beautiful parks and everything looked so lovely at night. You do not need to know any italian to get around, it was so much more fun to get lost.

Wouldnt wanna go back.

three stars

Rome was nice, but it isnt somewhere i would want to go back to. It was really dirty in most places. The people were unfriendly, even the police officers were unwilling to give directions. There are only 2 subway lines so even if a stop says that it is for one of the tourist attrations you are still going to have to walk a ways away. and if walking isnt for you then dont even think about a car, traffic is crazy. all i can say is 5 cars in a row on a 2 lane street.

the good, bad & ugly

three stars

This city has incredible sights which cannot be missed; but unfortunately this comes at the expense of the dirt and grime. Several persons told me that they were ready to leave after about 3 days, and I kind of felt the same. On paper it would seem like like this city is worth a lot more time, but I was pretty satisfied that I cut it short. But despite the negative, this is really a must visit city.

rome: momma mia

one star

Rome to me was a dirty, old city. The Romans were rude, and the food, all of it, was swimming in a pool of olive oil. I got nothing out of this trip but a migrane headache.

When in Rome, do as the Romans Do

five stars

Rome is the most historic city in Europe, hands down. The Pantheon was kind of dissapointing, but the Colloseum was amazing and the food was peerless.
