We have just returned from a week in Rome and loved every minute of it. We certainly didnt find it dirty and thought the local people were great fun. I loved the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel and the papal audience was a once in a lifetime experience, my husband loved all the roman remains and ruins. We didnt see everything in one week and will definitely go back.

(Report Problem)I think everyone should go to Rome once and that should be enough. The historical landmarks are truly spectacular and the food is okay but it ends there. I've have been to many areas in Europe and can honestly say that Rome is not romantic but just a dirty, noisey town and the people are a reflection of their city. Totally different from what I've read about or heard other people talk about. Italian service if thats what you call it is truly a joke, I've seen better service at a Walmart. And if you have to take the metro I would suggest think again. After arriving in Rome me and my wife took the train and then the metro to our hotel, it wasn't 1 minute into our metro ride that both of us were targeted by pick pockets and I'm 6'2 - 215 pounds. Even the so called metro police told us each time on the metro to keep an eye out for pick pockters, so we were always nervous getting on the metro, a constant watching your back. I've read other reviews on this website and either they must work for the city of Rome or they didn't see the same Rome I saw. If your thinking of vacationing in Rome I have one piece of advice think again, its a lot better on television than in person.

(Report Problem)Wonderful city. Virtually every street a treat architecturally. Use feet and bus to travel. Food is peerless and good value but stay away from tourist traps for the real deal. Can recommend Il Cuore di Napoli, Via Cernaia for a simple but outstanding pasta lunch, and Checco er Carettiere,Via Benedetta for authentic 3 course dinner. Only letdown is cleanliness which matches London's poor standard.

(Report Problem)Rome buzzes with life, is small and compact so walking is easy. We took 2 kids aged 6 and 9 who loved the ancient ruins, the scale of the churches and of course the fab food which pleased even the fussiest. The locals were great with the kids at all times of day. Best day trip: Ostia Antica, like Pompeii without the lava and really easy to get too. We will definitely return

(Report Problem)I visited with my fiancee back in January 2002. It was cold, but still lively and vibrant. There is a hidden energy about the place, like the pent up dedication of the Roman's who built this wonderful city were proudly watching from somewhere over the next hill. The food was magnificent, you haven't tasted a pizza until you've been to Rome and tried a real one. The people are mostly friendly and aproachable, and the stunning archetecture is everywhere. A great city I would highly reccommend.

(Report Problem)Rome is very aptly described as the Eternal City. So rich in history it's impossible to take it all in on the first, second or even third visit. It is an experience that cannot be ably described to walk her streets, relax in her piazzas and absorb her history. Take your time, don't rush it, relax into it. Rome is absolutely amazing from every angle and around every corner.
