So So City

three stars

I've recently returned to Dublin after twelve years living in London and travelling the world. I'm back now six months and am already planning on my departure. Some of the reviews on here are scathing of the city, unfairly. It's not that bad - but as a Dubliner I might be blinkered. The city is fun, the pubs are fun and the architecture though messed is stunning. What's dismayed me most is the recently aquired arrogance and racist opinions of my fellow countrymen. I've aquired a cockney (London) accent and have been subject to racism on a number of occassions - shock horror and vitriol when they realise i'm actually Irish. All in all it's well worth a trip to the city but it's not the best city in Europe but does have many a charm. Ireland as a country should not be mixed with Dublin as they're worlds apart. Check out Galway on the west coast - excellent city.

Can't wait to go back

five stars

Indeed, Dublin was a full city, but I loved every corner of it. The night-life is always bustling, so youll never be bored! the irish are soo nice and polite, especially the bus drivers and the bar-tenders. The only problem is the cost of things, seeing how everything is euros, but thats all in europe. I love cold weather, so i loved it there. The food is great too. Pubs are awesome and the waiters are lovely. I would without a doubt go back.

Toscana on Dame Street Dublin a great find

five stars

Toscana is directly opposite Dublin Castle, and around the corner form Temple Bar. I went here with my family while visiting Dublin. It was busy with what seemed to be locals, groups of work colleagues and friends, the atmosphere was lovley. I had fresh Tiger prawns which were huge and delicious! Everyone at our table shared a spoonful around and I will say all was delicious. Our Early Bird two course meal cost €17.95 which is great value in an expensive Dublin City. A great little find, will be back on my next trip...

Terrible transport system, the most unfriendly locals I have ever seen so far. Terrible attitude towards foreigners. Rubbish everywhere... I am sorry I will never visit it again.

The people are witty and can be very friendly. Wonderful city Pubs and resturants. There are many wonderful coffee shops and all within walking distance. There are many foriegn people living in the city so its quiet cosmopolitan. Going back again in June....

What's with the hostility? Part 1

four stars

In response to the string of bad reviews here. Dublin, is not your typical European city with grand boulevards or intricately paved piazzas, and if this is what you are looking for then you are in the wrong place. The essence of Dublin cannot be found at the surface and if it is purely aesthetic beauty which you seek then you should book a trip to some nice, safe little German town which will serve you nice, safe bratwurst and beer with a view of the alps. Besides if it is purely aesthetic beauty for which you are travelling then you do not understand the duty or purpose of the traveller and perhaps should not be allowed to comment at all. Delhi is littered and diseased. That place practically attacks you upon arrival, however, who that has been there would say it did not change their perspective on the world. Is this not the purpose of travel, to see other ways of life and take what we can from it? If you do not intend to achieve something from visiting places then just be up early to put your towel on your sunbed in Lanzarote and don't bother us with your presence. To understand Dublin, you must immerse yourself in Dublin. Vomit on the streets? Yes. Rubbish and junkies in doorways? I can't deny it, but there is so much more to Dublin than short break comfort travellers. The locals are not nice? Why should they be? Is everyone in your country nice. That's a ridiculous statement to make. Not everybody in the world is a nice person. Generalisation is quite dangerous. For the most part, I can offer that Irish people are some of the friendliest people I've met. Then again I have met some awful Irish people.

Snobby....

one star

Such an unhappy city and dirty!!! Even London looks Mediterranean comparing to that. Arrogant behavior of a lot of bored revelers teenagers. The locals spoil the city. That thing is more than a big isolated village but a city.

Hospitality is a myth

one star

It's amazing to read the opinions of people who don't even live in Dublin. It's a hostile place. It's worsening day after day. I have lived in a lot of places. This is the worst. I was never experienced in racism and rudeness in other country. There is nothing here to find. There are so many beautiful countries and cities to visit. They hate everyone, Americans, English, Spanish, Greeks, Asians... Save your time and your money and go anywhere else.
