Taxi Service Staff Incapable - Dalkey Taxi Service

one star

Getting a taxi in Dublin city centre is easy. However, if you plan a trip to the beautiful village Dalkey (just outside Dublin, home to the rich & famous), do not ever use Dalkey Taxi Service. Their staff that is not only rude, but also incapable of finding a street with more than 10 shops and 3 bus stops in the middle of Dun Laoghaire (between Dalkey and Dublin). I have never been treated in such an unprofessional manner. They kept telling me the street where I live did not exist. I recommend Dalkey Taxi Service hire friendlier staff that is capable of reading road maps or else they will be out of business soon enough. Very disappointing.

We'll go back EVERY YEAR

five stars

We had our honeymoon in Dublin last April and had a wonderful time, the buildings, people, food (especially Gallagher's Boxty House - book in advance) and the lovely Book of Kells. We loved it so much we're returning in 4 weeks time for a fortnight in Dublin and Southern Ireland. We'll definitely be back in Dublin every year from now on!!! My first time in Dublin was in 1978 and it has always stuck in my mind..... When you go, stay in Jurys - they look after you! Go there once, remember it forever.

Great for: History/Culture, Theatre/Music, Budget Travel, Family Holidays

Amazingly clean and friendly

five stars

From the moment we got in to the taxi from the airport we found out how friendly Dublin is! The driver was so friendly and gave us a guided tour on the way to our hotel. The Abbey 2* hotel was clean and the staff friendly. It has a great location as it is so close to Temple Bar and Connelly St shops. The Guiness brewery was packed and we had to queue outside for around 10 minutes before going inside to queue again. The tour wasn't particularly interesting but they had an ammusing giant indoor waterfall and a section to test the Guiness. At the top of the storehouse is the Gravity Bar where you can claim your free pint or soft drink while seeing the most spectacular view of Dublin you could ever imagine - a full 360 degree view! We wandered in and out of quite a few pubs in the city which were pretty much all very welcoming (apart from 'The Confession Box' where the walls were covered in anti English newspaper clippings and posters). Food and drink is suprisingly expensive even compared to most London places. A pint of Guiness averaged at around £3.50. The Regency Airport Dublin 3* hotel was warm, welcoming and clean. The staff were friendly (even though when I asked one member of staff what time the breakfast finished he ended up telling me the wrong time which meant I missed it). The bar serves snacks and full meals. Back in the city the tourist shops are full of high quality goodies at reasonable prices. The bus system was great - you pay the exact amount in coins at a low price. Overall - an amazing trip and I will definitely be going back there soon!

Great for: History/Culture

Couldnt wait to leave

one star

THe plaec is filthy- streets swimming in drink induced vomit. Fast food wrappers all over the place. Witnessed 2 crimes and heard of more from fellow travellers. Not a police officer in sight for my 4 days there. People ignorant and unhelpful. Incredibly expensive and services poor. And to top it off - was racially abused.

Toscana's Restaurant in City centre

one star

Toscana’s on DameSstreet What a disappointment! I made reservation on a Tuesday to make sure we could get a table for 3 on Saturday night at 9:00. The woman who took my called told me no problem a table for 3 was reserved on my name. I should have asked for her name but I just trusted her. Big mistake! When I got to the restaurant it was a cow market. Too many people waiting for a table at the 9:00 seating. It makes me wonder how a chef can prepare so many starters and main course at the same time and get high quality. At least 30 people were seating down for their meal. It felt like I was on a Q at McDonalds. I could not get the meaning of truly Italian dining experience idea. When I told the manager I had reservation for 9:00 he could not found my name on the list. I just could not believe it! He was very unprofessional and made us wait a long time to only say that he could give us a table for 40 minutes. I got so mad and I was about to give him a piece of advice. My friends pulled me on the side and asked to get out of that fast food Italian. We were very angry with the treatment we received from the manager. Left the place so mad at the incompetence of the Toscana’s manager and staff. I will never go back there and I will tell all my about my experience. I ended up going to the Chameleon in Temple Bar where I met lovely staff who treated us like customers should be treated and had a lovely dinner experience. I think it is about time for us Dubliners to get our dignity back. What is going on with this 2 seating dining??? I think I had enough of unprofessional staff and rude managers who think they are doing us a favor by being polite. Enough!... Regards, Zaira

Too Big For Its Boots

three stars

Food is fine, but it is becoming impossible to get a table unless one books weeks in advance. Unless, I suspect, one's surname is Desmond, Magnier or O'Reilly. Would hope this place doesn't disappear in its own sense of grandeur as it would lose what made it so popular in the first place.

You won't beat this for value and taste..

five stars

Dublin is full of sandwich bars and good restaurants serving full meals. We found a terrific alternative though to the usual fare in Temple Bar. HalfMoon Crepe Co. in the corner of the main square serve the best Crepes I've ever tasted. If you've never tried Crepes then this is the place to experiment. Sweet and savoury are equally good. Talk about "Mood Food" it didn't matter what time of the day/night it was or what the weather was like they had a crepe to suit ever mood we had. Great atmosphere/staff as well. My fav. Crepes: Bacon, Cheese and Canadian Maple Syrup and Apple for desert, although one is filling on it's own. Simply excellent.
