Overall

The French in particular like to promote Paris as the greatest city in Europe .. I think that is a bit much. Perhaps it should be called the most hyped city in Europe. Nevertheless, the restaurants are excellent; statues, fancy buildings, all kinds of attention to aesthetic details make it one of the nicest cities in Europe to stroll. Somehow Paris got reputation as a fashion capital, which is a bit deceiving as the quality of clothes is very poor. I bought a couple pairs of shoes which fell apart within a few weeks. The reputation of rudeness might be a bit undeserved. The French for the most part are a miserable bunch, if you get to know them; but I have usually as a tourist found them to be very hospitable and friendly.
