Paris is my favorite city. It houses some of the most incredible art and architectural beauty. The metro was very clean and free of homeless on my last trip in 2003. I found the people to be very friendly and appreciative of my using as much french as I could. We stayed near the eiffel tower in the market area and found that not only was our location quiet and convienantly located within walking distance of both the eiffel tower and des invalides, but we could get fresh fruit and breads for breakfast on our way to a major metro station that was a mere 3 blocks away. Some tips: When ordering beef, make sure you know what you're getting. Some roast dishes come very rare and cold. Make sure to be aware of days and hours of sights. We wanted to see the Rodin museum but put it off and it ended up being closed on Mondays. Tackle the city in sections. This is effecient with time and money. The view from the 2nd level of the eiffel tower is actually better than that of the top. Climb to the top of the arch de triumph near sunset and watch the light show on the eiffel tower. spend the 10 bucks on the Rick Steve's Paris guide. You'll be glad you did!
