I love NYC and Paris. Paris is enchanting and romantic. Just walking its streets gives you a feel of old and history. The streets of Paris are a living musseum. The musseums, the churches, the neighborhoods, the little shops, the wine, the cheese, the fruit, ooolalala! The transportation system is user friendly, clean and safe. Like any big metropolis you have to watch out for the "little crimes". It's a shame that we base our ideas of the Parisienes (and French) on how we would like them to be rather than respect who they are. It's like saying NYC is Times Sq. and every one is rude and indecent! If you attempt to communicate in French, they will appreciate and be very helpful. Merci and S'il vous plait go a long way. On Valentine's Day we forgot to make reservations for diner, a fatal mistake, and we found a local bar where they not only found a little table for us but we dined with the Arc de Triomphe as backdrop, dance to the tunes of Elvis and I was given a red rose for the best Valentine Day ever!!! I did not see jeans and sneakers and t-shirts (February) except on the very young. Its just great to dress up a little (still can be comfortable) and feel a part of Paris. I hope to go back many times in the future.
