(Report Problem)The French in particular like to promote Paris as the greatest city in Europe .. I think that is a bit much. Perhaps it should be called the most hyped city in Europe. Nevertheless, the restaurants are excellent; statues, fancy buildings, all kinds of attention to aesthetic details make it one of the nicest cities in Europe to stroll. Somehow Paris got reputation as a fashion capital, which is a bit deceiving as the quality of clothes is very poor. I bought a couple pairs of shoes which fell apart within a few weeks. The reputation of rudeness might be a bit undeserved. The French for the most part are a miserable bunch, if you get to know them; but I have usually as a tourist found them to be very hospitable and friendly.

(Report Problem)The ticket and Information booths in Paris lie about speaking English. They do, but prefer to speak any other language other than English. However, everyone in the tourist trade were the nicest and most helpful, even with my poor french pronunciation.

(Report Problem)I recently took a tour of France and stayed in Paris for a few days. I liked Paris, but I feel it's a bit overrated. Climbing to the top of Notre Dame, taking a boat ride on the Seine and seeing the Louvre were the highlights of my trip. I did Paris "on the cheap" - budget hotel near the Opera, eating street food and sandwiches, walking everywhere - and had a decent experience. Unlike most, I found the people of Paris to be kind but in a hurry - just like in many major cities. Just give the store keepers a "bonjour" and they will be civil. Unfortunately, I did find some downsides to the city. The area where I stayed - right behind the Galleries Lafayette - was absolutely deserted at night. I thought the Metro was dirty and unsafe - and I work in New York City! My boyfriend was robbed by some children and lost some cash even though we recovered the actual wallet. We were constantly harassed for money on the streets by the poor. My opinion is if you want to see France, go to the countryside, Provence, Strasbourg, Lyon, etc. instead.

(Report Problem)A truly wonderful city. For those in the UK, and particularly London, there is almost no excuse for not hopping on the Eurostar every Friday night and taking a long weekend. The Musee Rodin is a must, above all others - always in the guides, but usually an afterthought following the more obvious sites. Don't miss it.

(Report Problem)Paris is the jewel of old Europe. Walking throughout the city while soaking in the culture is without a doubt one of the best trips you can take. Breakfast with a croissant and espresso on Champ Elysees is an experience all of its own. Enjoy and keep an umbrella handy.

(Report Problem)I was in Paris back in August 2004, it was wonderful. If I had the opportunity I will travel there again. As matther of fact, I will like to live there permanent. I fell in love with a lady that lives outside of Paris. I met her per the internet, became friends and wrote to eachother and met together for 12 days. It was out of this world. Beautiful city, I enjoyed every part of it. Highly recommended.
