I had a wonderful time in Vienna. Some friends and I took a train there for a day, not knowing anything about it, we just had a small map, and had the greatest time! The atmosphere was good the food was great, and we did everything on foot! Wish we would have had more time!

(Report Problem)Anybody who loves music, history, art or culture will love Vienna! I spent only three days in Vienna as part of a longer tour so I can't offer comprehensive information, only my experiences from this short time. However I would definitely like to go back and explore the city furthur. Highlights are Schoenbrunn Castle, St. Stephan's cathedral, and the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Fine Arts), often called Vienna's Louvre. However, Vienna is more than just a checklist of things to see. My most enjoyable hours were spent simply wandering around and savouring the atmoshpere. You will never be far from the delightful sound of live music, either from concerts or from the many talented street performers. Vienna also deserves top marks for cleanliness, safety and convenience. The excellent public transportation system will take you almost anywhere, and the many pedestrian-only streets and lush green parks offer endless opptunities for peaceful strolls. The only drawback I would mention has to do with the famous Viennese elegance and etiquette that is part of the unique character of the city. On the downside the culture seems very class-conscious; Rich tourists are definetely more welcome than those on tight budgets. I must admit I am one of those low-brow people who have never heard of a smoking jacket, who regard clean pants, shirt and running shoes as dressed for dinner, and who has no understanding of which fork goes into what. For this reason I sometimes felt unwelcome in some of the shops, restaurants and Konditereis (cake and coffee shops). However, I realize this is partly my own fault and many other European cities have this same class-consciousness. This is only my single opinion, of course, but budget travellers such as students may get slightly chillier treatment. Prices are often high, but good deals can still be found.

(Report Problem)I went at Christmas and it was amazing. The streets were very festive and lit up with lights. The people are very friendly and quite helpful as well. I can't wait to visit in the summer sometime. The underground was easy to figure out and very useful for getting around.

(Report Problem)I think wien is one of the most fascinating towns in the world, it isn't too big: everything is at hand, wherever a traveller goes there are remains of a big empire and music is all over. Somehow it seems like time didn't pass and that the towns still lives in the era of Mozart and Strauss...
