ehhh... not enthused

i took a cruise that stopped in belize and paid to take a tour to their national zoo. i expected a little more. it was almost an hour-long ride throught REALLY poor areas, however the tour guide was very knowledgeable about the places we drove through. the bus was freezing and the zoo was pretty disappointing to walk through. it only took about an hour. it basically consisted of holdng a python, seeing some monkeys, and their WEIRD national animal. then its back on the bus for the frigid ride back. the port where ships dock has a few little shops, nothing big though. a handful of people were excited about the prescription-free drugstores. this spring i will probably stay aboard the ship most of the day in belize. a fair warning to the drug-free travelers like myself: DONT be surprised if youre quickly offered pot once you leave the immediate shopping area! i hear they have some ok snorkeling spots, but i didnt see them.

The dump called belize

We got there and wante to go to the beach, well to do that you had to pay $50 dollars up front, for 2 1/2 hours that includes the time it takes to get there......If you ever got there..The people there are like leaches they don't leave you alone for one minute and everything was expensive.....I would never even go back if it was FREE!!!!

Won't return

Very dirty and rundown. I don't know why the cruise ships bother going there. The city tour guide was very good and very friendly, but the park we stopped at for a restroom break was pathetic. Small, dirty restrooms, litter all over the park, etc. Couldn't they at least fix up the areas where tourists go - that is if they want them to return. The way we feel, we will never return. There was only one restaurant in the dock area (upstairs), and the food wasn't very good.

get junglized in the belize city area

i had a business meeting in belize city meanwhile my wife was able to induge in jungle spa treatments, then evenings we were in our own fantasy world getting back to one another. the people of belize were friendly and took care every needs.
