Korea is like the NY of Asia. Fast, in your face, earthy people. The Palaces and the Biwon are very nice. Insa-dong is a pleasant stroll on weekends when its a pedestrian zone. Old art and tea shops. The all night markets at Dongdemun are outrageous. Good buys on leather and "Louie" bags, but a better price can be had in Itaewon. Great deals on Burma Bilbas and Liz C there as well. Korean food, like the people, is earthy and robust. Not like fufu Japanese food. Learn a little Korean history and you will understand the Koreans better. They are well aware of their history and it shapes their being. Seoul is pleasant, but a bit tough and rough around the edges. Just like NY. It would not be my first place to go in Asia, or my second. But if you have the opportunity to go on business, trake a few days to immerse yourself. If you have lots of time on your hands for pleasure travel, Seoul is worth 3 days.
