More of its history than skyscrapers

four stars

It was just 4 days and 3 nights and was unable to see some great spots. The Shanghai Bund showed the best of old Gothic, Roman, British, French architecture. Shanghainese cuisine is excellent. But tours should show more of its history than the skyscrapers and shopping malls. It would be good to cap a fine tour to Shanghai if the stewardess of the Eastern China Air learn to smile.

Can't wait to go back!

five stars

Shanghai has a great night life, and there are many great places to eat! Hang Shan road is a great place to visit, and the area around the Oriental Pearl TV Tower has nice places to visit. Food and transportation are generally cheap and easy to get. The people are friendly and I was treated very well wherever I went! I cannot wait to return! Transportation to other cities in China is easy and cheap, depending on how you want to travel.

The Beautiful City

four stars

I learned that ShangHai is a beautiful place and it's food is excellent. It has lots of stuff to see. But I dislike the flight because it takes 10 or 11 hrs. to get to ShangHai. ShangHai is where I can meet my uncle and his dog LouLou. He is the dog I like to speak to because he doesn't know how to talk english. I wish I can go back.

Shanghai has a history of more than 1000 years

I am a Shanghainese. In many people's eyes, Shanghai is just a commercial city.In fact,Shanghai has a history of more than 1000 years. In SongJiang District of Shanghai, there are a lot of ancient architecture from Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasty.Meanwhile Song Jiang is the cradle of shanghai. Shanghai: A wonderful place to go.

four stars

Shanghai is overall a pretty nice place. It is very convinient for eating, shopping, and recreational purposes, although getting to them is the hard part; the traffic is often quite awful, because the city is very crowded. However, getting the transportation is easy, there are thousands of taxis waiting to be of service, and if you're a bit more advernturous, you might even want to take the cheaper way: the bus. Although with some resturaunts you have to be careful, most of them hold exotic foods that many foreigners have never even heard of before. There are plently of places to interest you, Nanjing Road, The Oriental Pearl Tower, the Science Center, and of course the Shanghai Zoo and Aquarium. You might also want to take a visit downtown, or somewhere in the Bund. It doesn't really matter much where you stay, as long as it's some high class hotel like the JW Marriott and other similar hotels. You might want to pick out a hotel that's closest to the attractions that you want to see, so that you wont be stuck in traffic. Shopping is fun, although what you get may not be entirely genuine, and some places to go are Huaihai road, random places in downtown, and any shopping mall that you might come across. On the streets, you can find the flea markets, where you can buy high-class-looking stuff that, although it might not be authentic, is very cheap. Shanghai is a very interesting place with its own ups and downs just like any city. I would recoment going there, not only to see the wide-viewed attractions, but also take a look at the rural conditions there like the ancient buildings and houses that normal Shanghainese live in.

Shanghai is AWESOME!

five stars

I stayed ten nights at the hilton in shanghai where the hotel was really nice and had good views from both the room and the roof top lounge. But the hotel was the most expensive place to eat! For a fraction of the cost of hotel food I could get full course meals for a group at local fine dining establishments. The shopping was really good along nanjing road and also in the xiang yang market. If you like to go to the roppongi of Shanghai you need to go to xin tian di. This is a new and really nice area of specialty shops and many clubs and bars! There were a couple places that I really enjoyed. A Japanese all you can eat and drink place where I spent about $40 U.S. for a group of 4! The other place was an interesting club that had a secret code to get in the door. Locals get the code by calling ahead. when you get to the door you have to touch lights in a certain sequence to open the automated door. Interesting concept and the place was at capacity with many waiting in the bar area for a place to sit. Taxis are plentiful and very cheap. They are also very honest...imagine that! Two or three euros will take you just about anywhere in Shanghai. Finally, I made a mistake once of staying near the financial district on the Pudong side of the river. The traffic through the tunnel was insane. It made it difficult to be anywhere on time. Lesson learned...keep your hotel on the Shanghai side unless you are doing business specifically in the financial market district of Pudong. Hilton, Ritz Carlton, Marriott and many more awesome hotels on the Shanghai side! Enjoy!

Great city for business travel; not for tourism

four stars

Shanghai is the city of skyscrapers, where some of the skyscrapers already look dated with their UFO like tops. It's interesting to see the future of China, but there is little to interest the average tourist. For people who come just to shop or eat, you won't be disappointed although it clearly not as cheap as it used to be. And you get what you pay for. Those fake watches will probably break within 3 months. Bangkok is cheaper.
